I have also been a member of Care.com on and off for years. I hired a girl to clean once a week when I was sick. I knew I wanted her when I saw she worked in an assisted living place so my sickness wouldn't freak her out. Im all better now! I kept her because I trust her so much now and do I really want to do all that work again? I also hired a tutor for my kindergarten son. He was having anxiety and hiding in the closet because of the homework they give in kindergarten now. He learned how to read a little and add in kindergarten but he doesn't follow directions well and has anxiety and maybe depression so they put him in the integrated class for first grade. The girl I hired is a preschool teacher and she understands young children and I don't have to deal with my son hiding in the closet because of the homework. I know its a cop out but she is cheaper that private school at $20 a hour. We ended up doing 4 days a week and we kept her this summer because I want my son to be super confident in is new reading skill and numbers. We just found out he had asthma and I wonder if that was making him so tired since he couldn't breathe. He had pnemonia 3 times in 6 years. He is on the puffer now so he has so much energy now. He even notices it. I could have hired someone for my mom when she go alzeimers but I hired a geriatric social worker to get a aide in for her everyday. The agency pays the girl 10 dollars a hour and I pay over $23 dollars a hours. I obviously didn't know what I was doing but the aide is great and has a car. Well she isn't perfect but she is pretty good and my mom is now attached to her. You shouldn't have to pay so much. Ridiculously enough a alzeimer's unit at the assisted living would be cheapter than the aide and food and the apartment. So I hope she will give the alzeimers unit a try. I use care.com for tutors, babysitters and maid. I hired a preschool teacher to help my five year old and a maid (She is a nice italian girl who works in an assisted living home) to help with house work once a week. She is an angel. They helped me while I am recovering from cancer. I trust them as family at this point. I could have hired a music teach to give piano lessons in my house for 15 or 20 dollars a hour. I also could have hired a regular school teach to help my son too. Rates were pretty reasonable. Depending on where you live this is very nice and worth the money. They also have elderly care givers. I ended up hiring a Geriatric Social Worker who hired my moms caregiver. It was like an agency run by a Social Worker who does the hiring personally. My mom got a lovely lady who is very hard working and I am very satisfied. My mom has alzeimers and boy does she have to put up with alot of stuff from my mom. The care giver has a car and can take my mom to church and other outtings. Let us introduce ourselves.
