Sometimes you just need to crystalize those Moments of Motherhood. The ancient haiku format of show-don't-tell 5/7/5 syllable construction works perfectly. Here are some of my efforts. Can anyone add to these? Many-buttoned stick, Turner-on of glowing box, Always out of reach. Window to the world... I press my nose against the glass And lick lick lick lick. Is it three A.M.? Time for my late-night drinks date! Wake up, Mom! Wake up! Peas, oh yuk, yuk, yuk! I spit green mash all over Your navy wool suit I squall my rage. Baby gate, between me and The cat's tasty food. Crumple, crumple, rip, How crisp are the pages from this New issue of People. You call it Naptime, But I see it as being In jail with toys. I am too high and My half-eaten Arrowroot Is now far too low. Full green garbage bag. They keep pulling me away, But it will be mine. This new toy does not Fascinate me as much as The box it came in. The changing table! Must squirm, must roll, must crawl, ARGH! Turned over again. Too much milk, I fear. I eject the excess--oops! On Dad's new sweater. What is it? Unknown. All I know is it must be Put into my mouth. I drool on command Share your cookie or get damp The supply--endless! The flicky-tailed cat Has climbed out of reach again. Life is so unfair.
