Poems Of Summer
Moms View Message Board: Short Stories, Poetry and Articles : Poems Of Summer
August Afternoon The yard reposes, weighty and lethargic in the torrid afternoon. Iridescent dragonflies dance on the placid air over a pool of turquoise ribbons. Humidity heavy on their pedals, the flowers droop and surrender in a stupor. A soaring gull seeks a cooler current and rises from view. Cicadas drone, sprinklers whoosh and blades revolve with a racket that the heat seems to distance like a shimmering mirage. The listless scents of wilted flowers, damp towels and sun screen prowl quietly like chastised pets. Rolling thunder gathers the smudge of distant clouds towards me, pledging relief, and I swelter and sweat, waiting for the succor of the promised shower. B. V. Dahlen Floating A gentle lapping lulls my afternoon to a nodding slumber. I circle in lazy arcs pushed by currents unseen, digits drifting beside me. Domed droplets decorate my arms. A dragonfly dallies on an pointing toe, and sips the moisture there. It tickles. B. V. Dahlen Watering Back a forth the trickle scatters falling towards the thirsty soil. A drought of life this tube I hold. A mindless drill, and evening habit refreshes, and brings relief to the wilted garden. B. V. Dahlen Pool Perfect Giggles and vaults, Splashes and leaps, The pool churns with children. The turquoise droplets scatter, Dousing stoic spectators to the devilish delight of these sodden water nymphs. They dive, and hurl their glittering bodies from the searing apron into the freshening liquid time and time again. Their energy is boundless. Their joy is enchanting. Their voice is Summertime. B. V. Dahlen
Excellent as always, Bea
