Snoring
Sarah and I have the misfortune of sharing a hotel room with Gary tonight. He has already dozed off and is snoring enough to wake the dead. Ugh. There is no escaping it tonight, since I can't run out to the couch in the living room. Wish us luck! I should get to bed, because we have to be up early, to go to the university orientation tomorrow!
LoL, I totally feel for you! I can't sleep at all while someone is snoring. Just give him a good shove
Earplugs.
I feel your pain, Dawn. My dh isn't allowed to fall asleep before me. If I get to sleep first, I can sleep through his rumbling but I can NOT fall asleep if he's already gotten started. Is there a fan in your room or even the TV turned low to provide some white noise? I find that helps me some if I don't have earplugs or another room available.
Shoving does nothing! LOL! We had the air conditioner on, so that helped some. We had crappy pillows to sleep on, so that certainly didn't help. I did get some sleep, though!
I totally feel your pain, Dawn. My DH snores so badly that I have to leave the bed some nights, too. Pushing/shoving/kicking/rolling over just doesn't do the trick, does it?
My husband snores terribly! Sometimes I do shove him and he changes positions and that helps but only for a little while. We have even tried those strips you put on your nose that opens up the airways, and they do work until they fall off about an hour or two later. I really don't want to use earplugs because I need to hear little dd if she wakes up. I've heard there is a spray out there that you spray in the back of your throat before you go to bed, but we haven't tried that yet.
I remember sharing a hotel room with both my parents once. OMG they both seriously saw some longs when they were sleeping. I remember laying there and SERIOUSLY thinking about bringing my pillow and blanket into the bathroom to sleep. But i didn't want to sleep on that nasty floor. LOL I don't think I got much sleep that night. But I kept throwing stuff at them to get them to shut up, like pillows and my teddy bear....I was, needless to say, getting very cranky!
I do feel bad for all of you. I will tell you my husband was a terrible snorer. It would make me so angry to be laying there awake and listening to it.It was expecially bad for me after Faith was born. She would get up so often, and then I couldnt get back to sleep because of his snoring. He did a sleep study and now he has on of those CPAP machines at night. I will tell you that bedtime is 100% better now. Now. I only hear the hum of the machine. I wonder how many of you with husbands with this problem would benefit from this?
I agree with Jackie. My husband snored terrible and it was discovered that he actually stops breathing several times in the night! Before masking the noise, I suggest sending your hubby to the doctor. Sleep apnea can cause heart attacks, even death!
I wonder about that, with Gary, sometimes, because I think I've heard him stop breathing sometimes. It seems, when we are on vacation and stuck with him, in a hotel room, for a week, that we are so busy during the day, and so tired when we go to sleep, that I think we sleep through it. I know it's better when I fall asleep first, but I can usually stay up later then he does and he falls asleep soooo easily, too, even with lights on and that tv still going!
Breath Right. It's worth the money and more.
DH tried Breathe Right.. no positive results for us. :-(
In order for the CPAP machine to work, they have to wear it. My dh has one, will put it on at night and then gets tangled in it or just takes it off in his sleep without even realizing it. Most of the time, he doesn't bother with it anymore and I can't really blame him. Breathe Right was no help for us, either.
My husband tried the Breathe right, but it didnt help him either. Every once in awhile my husband takes his off in his sleep. (but doesnt know he does it). Then I will hear him snore and say "YOU ARE SNORING"...that startles him enough to put his mask back on. He even takes it on vacation with us.
Last night was a particularly bad night for my dh's snoring and it reminded me of this thread. I maybe got 3 hours of sleep, so when he got up this morning, I went back to bed for another 3 hours.
I don't blame you. I probably would have, too! Ugh. Last night, Gary fell asleep in the basement, so I had a quiet night, except for menstrual cramps that woke me, in the morning. Ugh.
I have the opposite problem - I am the snorer! I really don't like it about myself. What is the CPAP machine you mentioned?
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. It puts a slight pressure on your air passages, so air can move more freely, thus preventing the snoring.
