Just a vent

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2007: Just a vent
By Kaye on Monday, May 14, 2007 - 08:27 am:

Vent probably isn't the right word...yesterday my middle kid got sick out of nowhere, started running a pretty high fever. Woke up fine and by 11 was at 102. Of course we were already out at a restruant. Anyway, as the course of the day goes on he gets as high as 103.5, and unless we med him every 4 hours it spikes that high, it doesn't go below 102. UGH. I was up all night with him, just checking on him, we are both tired now! He had meds at midnight, at 6 am he was just shy of 104. So as soon as the doc opens I will be taking him in. In the meantime I have such a busy day. I have a 30 min appt at the school at 8:30, my dd has an ortho appt at 1:15. The youngest one gets picked up at school at 3. In the meantime my dad is having his heart sono today. It has been a very long weekend with him, I really didn't need to have a sick kid. I guess it is all a matter of perspective. My middle kid has been sick a lot this year, each time it is a little worse, he normally just handles it fine. But he is so lethargic and sick. I am sure it is just viral, but hoping it is something that antibiotics will treat so he can be on his way to better.

Anyway, just had to "say it out loud".

Kaye, we can have a pitty party together! Dh threw out his back yesterday. So, I am going to either have to take him to the doctor, or hospital today. He can barely walk. Totally ruined Mothers Day. I have a busy week, and baseball every night because of all our rainouts.

{{{{{HUGS}}}} I hope all goes well with your dad today, and your ds. I hope he is feeling better soon. It is a big bummer when our dks are sick a lot. We were there in Jan/Feb, and it is definitely no fun.

WOW! I feel so bad for you both. When it rains - it pours. (((BIG HUGS))) Kaye, let us know how things turn out with your ds. Those numbers are scary!

{{{HUGS}}} to both of you!

I barely saw hubby yesterday, since he had to work at 1pm and didn't get home until after 11pm.

It's amazing how often they cook up afternoon assignments, when he technically dosesn't start until 4pm.

Well back from the doc. He has strep, his throat isn't very red and all of us (the doc, the intern and I) really thought it was viral and decided to swab just in case...sure enough it was positive. As much as I don't really want a kid with strep, I am so pleased that he has strong meds that by tonight I shouldn't have to stress over his temp!

(((hugs))) to you both!

He should be feeling better soon! I'm glad they swabbed his throat!

Made it through another night. Kind of funny, the doc said, if you get two doses of antibiotic in him, he can go to school in the morning. Well in theory I can understand that. But the kid this am is still at a high temp (although that is relative for me now!) 102.5, he looks and feels like crap. He got at high at 104.3 yesterday. Crazy, I just have never had a kid this sick.

On a better note, my dad is feeling great, all his test results came back okay. Maybe he had a virus that knocked him down, who knows, but it is a much better week.

Strep throat gives me a fever, like nothing else does! It really can make you pretty sick. I'd be keeping him home, too!

Great to hear good news about your dad.

With your DS, I can just say that strep usually gave my kids a high fever, and it normally took 48 hours of oral antibiotics for them to really show improvement. Hope your little guy is feeling better soon.

(((HUG)) Hope that will help a little.

By Debbie on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 11:43 am:

Kaye, when my ds got strep last month, he had the same symptoms as your ds, high fever, vomiting, and he didn't really have a red throat either. It took 3 days after the antibiotics for him to feel decent. I hope your ds is feeling better soon.

Also, glad to hear your dad is doing great.
