Anyone have an iPod?
Just had a few iPod questions! I really can't afford one, but since our company recently blocked our radio internet access for security reasons, I miss listening to my music while I work! Maybe, I'll save up and treat myself! Can you download songs from your own personal CD collection (CDs you previously purchased by professional artists) and how do you do that? Does it come with a docking unit? I've read that it runs on a rechargeable, lithium battery. Does the iPod come with a recharging unit or do you buy that separately? Also, how long does it run before you have to recharge it? Do the songs run smoothly, or do they skip if the unit is jostled? I know that it comes with earbuds, but can you use regular headphones as well? Thanks for any comments!
We have Ipods. Yes, you can download your cd's onto your ipod. There is a program (Itunes) you get with your Ipod. You download your cd to a library on Itunes then transfer it to your IPOD. As far as recharging, a USB cable comes with the IPOD and you recharge it on your computer. It may depend on the IPOD model you buy, but mine would easily last an entire work day. I was told it would work with most earphones. I haven't had any problems with skipping. Hope that helps.
We have 30gig video ipods. We have hours and hours of music on ours!
I have an older Ipod and mine came with a recharger that you plug into the wall but I can also recharge it with the USB cable on my computer I have had mine for about 3 years (maybe more) and I have never had it skip. And I love it.
My DH bought me one and also got a car charger/player thingy for my ipod nano. I love it. So, I can charge it while I'm listening to it while on the road.
If you want to spend a little less, you could get a shuffle. I think it holds about 240 songs and is about $83 with tax. My dd just got one with her First Communion money. shuffle
WHOOO HOO! I actually made a link that works. I'm so excited!
Before you purchase an Ipod, there was something on the local news just this morning about a new MP3 player, by Sandisk, the Sansa that is supposed to really give Ipod a run for their money. The basic one was reported to be something like $59! The battery life is something like 20 hours and is user replaceable, which is way better than an Ipod. It's also a radio. I actually found the basic one on Amazon for less than $30. They also use flash memory, it is equipped with a USB connector so you can plug it right into your computer, you can transfer music from flash card to flash card to computer, etc. BizRate shows a lot of them. I'm wishing I hadn't spent the money on my 4 GB Ipod in December now.
Definitely check out other brands of MP3 players before deciding on an ipod. I have one of these and I love it. http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=14107

I love my 4gig Nano!! It has great playtime, I have a car charger I bought separately, but it can charge via USB. I have all of the music on my computer loaded on it, and can have video, podcasts, and games as well. It's tiny, I use it in my office.
I don't think I would like a shuffle, because it doesn't have a screen!
I have a shuffle and love it. It's really not a big deal to skip through the songs. You get to know where stuff is in your mind. Mine is only half full and quite honestly, I can't imagine filling it up completely. The shuffle is perfect for me personally. I don't use it in the car and never would most likely anyway, so that's not a concern. I'm the kind of person that listens (in the car) to 2-3 cd's that I just play to death for 6mths. and then switch them out one day with 2-3 new ones.
Thanks Dawn, I don't know how to make clickable links.
We have one of each at my house. I have the shuffle and mostly feel like deanna. But recently my hubby hooked it up for my car and I am suprised at how much i like it. I think if you only have a shuffle, you won't miss the screen, but once you have one with a screen the shuffle becomes a little bothersome. We love our ipods, they are user friendly, compatible with one another, just no issues really.
I just got the 4 gig Nano and love it. Crystal and Melanie gave me good recommendations that they loved theirs, so I got one with my Amex points. So far, so good. It's nice to tune my kids out! LOL I had just a regular old mp3 player that I got at walmart that was good too...
The Ipod allows us to have MANY cds at our disposal, without having to actually have them all with us! We listened to the ipod all the way to Niagara Falls and back and all the way to South Dakota and back! There's a lot of music on there, that we all like listening to!
We all have ipods and love them. My daughter wanted more of an Ipod than we would buy her so she found a refurbished one and saved over $100.00, here's the link http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=EC0F3C63&node=home/specialdeals/ipod It carries the same warranty as a new one.
I got an older full-size Ipod off of eBay. It was used, but in excellent condition and it came with a warranty. I don't need the latest cool model. I simply wanted a way to play my hundreds of CDs in my car without keeping up with hundreds of CDs. And yes to all of your questions--you can put your CDs on it, use other head phones, etc.
How much does it cost to download a song to an Ipod? I think I am going to ask for one for my birthday.
If you have lots of cds, then nothing. Songs from Itunes cost $.99, usually. Classical music, though, is usually $.99/movement, not $.99/song.
With tax it's $1.05/song from itunes.
Not bad. I am going to get one
Callie has one.. And she has gotten most of her music through itunes. It ends up to be a lot cheaper than buying CD's that she only listens to one or two songs on.. And getting the songs seems fairly easy.. I set up a pay pal account and put money in it every now and then that way I don't have a such a small charge on my checking account. You can buy gift cards with money on them too and it puts the dollar amount into your account on the itunes site..
Sarah says that she never sees a "tax" amount, when she gets the receipts mailed to her. I really don't know if a bigger amount shows up on the credit card bill, or not.
I think we pay 1.08. It shows the tax when deducted from your balance, maybe you are in a no tax zone dawn!
I just got a new ipod today. I had the old style shuffle and I got a new pink nano. Now, to get it filled with music!!
I got the hot pink Nano today. What fun. I do not know how to rearrange the songs I downloaded. I wish it came with a manual! I guess I will need to print the one online.
You can make playlists, in iTunes and then download them onto your ipod. I'm sure that works the same with a Nano, as it does with a video ipod. My daughter knows how to make playlists, on the go, but I haven't figured that out yet.
I am so pathetic. I used to have a Dell DJ Ditty, and when I first got my Ipod, I just transferred the music to it. However, my Ipod holds literally 60 times more tunes than the DJ Ditty! Yes, the Ditty only held 512 MB, and my Ipod is 30 GB! I have just been too lazy to sit down with my CD's and put the songs on there. Does anyone want to help me? LOL
That's the hard part, ripping all the cds! LOL!
