Gluten..
Has anyone here ever eliminated gluten from their diet? I've heard of celiac disease but I recently read some articles that gluten and processed foods can factor into depression and make it hard to lose weight if you are sensitive to it. The only way to find out is too eliminate it and see how you feel. I haven't had gluten for 1 week and I have felt amazing!!!!! I'm able to focus and get things done, more energy. I've been feeling so good it's been easy to stick with. I haven't had any cravings. I've been feeling great and I consider the bonus to be I lost 8 pounds in this past week. I'm really encouraged by this.
My sister and my oldest DD both have celiac sprue. Neither of them can eat wheat or wheat products due to the gluten intolerance. Since those are basically carbs, it's not surprising you lost weight. Fatigue and depression are symptoms of gluten intolerance. If you're feeling so much better, then I'd say keep doing what you're doing!
Ditto Karen. Due to my DK's severe nut allergies I have to read tons of labels. Gluten is in a lot of processed and packaged foods, including things you wouldn't even suspect.
What foods have gluten? Does it say on the label? I would like to try this and see if it helps me.I'm always so tired and depressed.
Just read the labels. You would be surprised how many packaged or canned foods have either wheat or sugar or both in them. We got into the habit of reading labels when DH had a heart attack 7 years ago. Once you start doing it, you'll be shocked at what's in your food - even if it's just the amount of sodium, etc.
Wnadilu- let me know if it helps. I'm dying to know if others are affected like me.
