Track team/club
Any of your younger kids ever been on a track team/club? My daugheter who is almost 8, just joined a local track team. She has always been my wild child, has more energy then my other kids. She has always love to run. We kept saying when she gets to middle school she can join a track team. Well I was looking in the Sunday paper and saw they have a local one for kids 8-18. Although she isnt quite 8 they said it was ok for her to join. We took her Monday for a short time to see if she liked it, we couldnt stay long had a boyscout thing to go too.Yesteday was her first official practice. The joining fee was $75, which I thought was kind of high...But the uniform fee is $80..WOW...they only have two track meets a month on Saturdays. Anyways, practice is 90 minutes..WOW...they run A LOT.. I mean they work the younger kids different then the older ones. I felt sorry for my daughter. She was WIPED out..she did good though, kept up with all the instructions. The team started a month ago, so we are late stating. She raced with 4 girls her age, and always came in last. She is such a trooper.I told her she will only improve. Practice is 3 times a week.Ikept asking her in the car if she wanted to go back. She said she was tired, and it was hard, but it was fun She came home, took a shower and fell into bed.. she will be oh so crabby today. Anybody else have younger kids on the track team?
My daughter was on the school track team last year, when she was 10. They ran every day after school, and had a big track meet for all of the schools once. There was no fee because it was through the school, and they were given team shirts to wear just for the big race. She started again this year, but her friend who joined with her backed out, so she did, too. I wish she would have kept it up, but it was her decision. She still walks 45 mins to get home every night, so she's certainly getting her exercise anyway. Oh, one drawback here was the weather. It was in the fall, and fall in Ontario can be hot, freezing, rainy or snowy. They had to run in everything. Yuck!
It will be nice when she gets to the older grades when she can do it for school. Right now the elementary schools do not have track teams. I am hoping she will keep up with it. The cost of the uniform wont bother me so much if she at least will do it next yr as well LOL
