Tour de Georgia
We've had an exciting afternoon! The Tour de Georgia went right past our house about an hour ago. Earlier this afternoon a smaller bike race went past with lots of hoopla and police escort, but it was nothing compared to the real deal. There were state troopers everywhere and every intersection for as far as we could see (that would be three, btw) on our road was blocked and there was an amazing amount of police, sponsor vehicles, motorcycles, rider's cars with their roof-racks full of extra bicycles and tires, media, and even a helicopter overhead. My dks were so excited. An official that came through ahead of time to make sure that there were no road hazards gave us all big cardboard hands to wave at the racers. The racers themselves were amazing and boy were they moving fast! The leaders had a 2 minute 48 second lead over the main group. We knew that because of a media person who sat in front of our house and was radioing info. Dd took some pictures and I will try to post a few later. These were all professional riders from all over the world and this was an unusual event for our neighborhood. I just wanted to share. I guess now I should get back to working in my garden.
As the wife of an ex- semi pro bike racer, I know exactly the excitement you are feeling! It's amazing they can go so fast and keep on those two skinny wheels. Glad your kids enjoyed it too.
I love watching bike races! My dh races too, but he does mountain bikes and downhill. He's taking up road racing this year though. He is training right now for a 140 mile brewery to brewery ride from downtown boston to Vermont. http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/index.cfm/page/About-The-Ride/pid/84901 and I am probably going to find a halfway point and cheer them on with the dks.
