MIL went in for her test
So this was my Easter- I went out to dinner with my dh and ds, and went to my MIL's house to stay the rest of the day. Today I took my MIL in for her colonoscopy. She scheduled one last month when she had a ruptured hemorroid because she had been having diarrhea. She was really nervous, so she asked me to spend the night with her last night. She had to have a liquid diet and take her prep kit, which contained Doculax (4 tablets) and HalfLyte (a half-gallon water mixed with laxative.) She went to the bathroom all night, until about 3 AM. We got in to the gastroenterologist bright and early at 8:30 AM and everything checked out okay. We left around 11:30, went out for lunch and I brought her home with me. The doctor said that he thinks the diarrhea is caused by the amount of meds she is on, which at this point she is on 6 different drugs. But, she only recently started on the blood pressure and cholesterol meds, within the past 2 months, and she has dealt with the diarrhea for about 3-4 years now. So, she is going to wait until she consults with her regular doctor to see what can be done, since her regular doctor is more familiar with her history. She is getting frustrated with her health, but I don't know if she is willing to do what the doctors are saying she should do, which would be to change her lifestyle. She knows what she is dealing with, but she seems to want to ignore the changes that she needs to make. She worries me.
I can feel for her and not wanting to make the changes... Even though they are for the best.. I have some things I need to work on myself. Glad all went well and I hope her general Dr can help her figure some of this out... Big hugs to you for being such a good DIL..
I agree...Lisa, you are such a good DIL. What things are they asking her to change, if you don't mind me asking? It's hard when adults make their own decision because, well, they're adults. My mother would not take schizophrenic medication or her blood pressue pills and it was heartbreaking. I just pray she gets better...
Thanks for the compliments! Mainly she is simply being asked to change her diet and get some exercise. The foods she eats are high in sodium and fat. And she refuses to believe that she is able to exercise because 3 years ago she was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in her knees and was forced to retire. She isn't in any pain, but she only gets moving when she has to. She lives in a second floor apartment and figures that the exercise she gets going up and down the stairs is enough. She has a myriad of other health issues, first being schizophrenia, for which she HAS been in therapy for the past 30 years and has really succeeded in living a normal life despite the struggle to stay sane. She has the arthritis, macular degeneration, gastritis, bowel issues, high blood pressure and cholesterol. It gets her down, and maybe she feels that after all she's been through, she should be able to treat herself to that double cheeseburger without guilt and take it easy and be lazy when she isn't feeling up to par.
