Our sick Puppy
Well we have known for a couple years that Chyanne had Discoyd Lupus and we have managed it and she is doing really well with it. We found out today that now she also has Addison's Disease. We found this out after a $800 Vet Bill and now that we now we can manage it and she is going to be back to her old self and live a healthy life. But it's going to cost us $180 a month for the medicine she needs to keep it under control. She is worth every penny but oh my gosh...
Poor Chy!!!!!!
Poor furbabie... but she is beautiful. Glad she will be back to normal with the meds.
((HUGS)) Thank you for being willing to pay for her ongoing care! She is blessed to have you!
Our (actually Scott's) Sasha (also a lovable and "worth it" Rottie) had two ACL surgeries, for a total of $5,800; and is now on Metacam to manage her arthritis and bad hip pain, to the tune of $100 a month. Scott and I both think she's worth it.
Wow, $5,800...It's so hard being a good pet owner. I have no doubt we would do it all again, she is that special to us. Sounds like Sasha is that special to you guys too! We had thought about getting another Rotti this summer but I think this whole thing has made us rethink it. Not sure we can afford two dogs sick at the same time...if that should ever happen.
Oh, poor baby! I think it's wonderful that you are continuing to provide the care she needs. Our puppers are so special to us and truly a member of the family. She's a lucky dog!
Wow that's a lot of money for a dog! But I understand that she is part of the family. I'm glad she is going to get better and yes she is a lucky dog! My brother's dog Maxx, is probably around 14 years old with bad artheritis. He needs help getting up from laying down, walking up and down stairs,he's also diabetic and now blind. I can't imagine how much they pay for that dog. He even gets special precription food! They have no kids, so he is their baby. Each time they leave town they put him in a great and trusted kennel. They have to pay extra for them to give him the special food, and his insulin shots. I can't imagine how much it costs them to board him.
Wow, that is a lot of money. I'm sure your dog appreciates you for it!
Andi, if you do get another Rotti, you want to check the papers for potential hip problems in the inheritance, and have your vet check things out. I'll ask Scott what it is you have to look for. A lot of Rotties have hip problems (as do German Shepherds and others). For Sascha, on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the worst, one hip is a 4 and the other a 3. Which contributed greatly to the ACL injuries. One thing, we have had her on a slow weight loss diet and in the past year she has gone down from 120 pounds to 95 and it makes a big difference. We are shooting for getting her between 85 and 90 pounds and keeping her there.
It's interesting that you mention your son's dog's hips in relation to the ACL injuries. Our vet was surprised that our Jack had one ACL tear, let alone two. He just couldn't believe it because he said it's rare for a Jack. However, Riff has two large one large/one small "fat pad" on each respective hip and we wonder now if that didn't contribute to his ACL issues. Andi, my sister's lab/rott mix also has hip issues that she is shelling out tons of money for monthly now. (He's about 9-10 yrs old as well) It's hard not to pick out another breed you love because of potentially expensive health issues in the long run. Once you love a breed you just love them, I know.
Sorry, that first part was addressed to Ginny!
Awwww...poor guy! I love those pics! You guys are so loving... There should be more dog owners like y'all.
