I don't think mine worked. Anyway, this is just insane. I can't believe the gall of that teacher.

Surely there could have been some form of discipline that was far less harsh, than tape on the mouth. Sheesh.

I agree - unbelievable!

By Mommmie on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 - 10:53 am:

My son's 2nd grade teacher did that to a kid in his class twice, plus she locked him in the store rooms both times with his mouth taped. It was quite the scandal. The kid was the PTA president's child, too, lest anyone think "being involved" keeps bad things from happening to your child while they are at school.

We had a teacher do that in Ma a few years back. I'd be pressing charges and calling a lawyer.

By Mommmie on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 - 12:30 pm:

Well, in our case, the district told the parents of this kid who had his mouth taped and then put in the storeroom two times, that if they would not talk to the media or press charges they would switch their kid out of that class and into another 2nd grade class. The parents agreed.

The other parents of the 2nd grade were LIVID. Had these wronged parents pressed further they could have gotten the teacher fired and it would have been better for *all* the kids in the classroom.

So the other parents went to the media with it and a story ran in the newspaper about it, and in addition it described other questionable behavior by the teacher. THEN with the media pressure and *only* with the media pressure did the district fire the teacher.

It was quite the situation. My son had already been accepted at a private school for the next year, so I was feeling pretty vindicated about my decision to take him out of this public school. The rest of 2nd grade was a waste as they was sub after sub after sub and of course none of them knew my son was a special ed kid with an IEP and required certain things. But they didn't do any work, just coasted for 5 months so it didn't matter a whole bunch anyway.

OMG Mommmie!!! That's all the school did??!!! She should have been fired on the spot, parents pressure or not. That's awful how the school handled it. I cannot believe that story!
