Question about preparing dinners ahead of time
I have heard of some people making a whole month's worth of dinners and freezing them. I'm not sure I would do that, but once a week would be nice. Does anyone here do that? What kind of dinners freeze best. I will still prepare my veggies on the same day.
Main Dish Kitchen is a place by me, where you can go prepare 12 meals at a time, to take home and freeze. A few of my co-workers love the place. I have never tried it, though.
A former member, Barbara used to do that monthly. She'd spend a weekend cooking her meals for the month and freezing them. I hate to cook, so I'd probably never do that. Meals that freeze well: Meatloaf Any pasta type dish (spaghetti, lasagna, manicotti) Red beans/white beans/blackeyed peas Soups Chili Roast (used to make BBQ sandwichs/poboys, etc. Pot roast Stewed chicken I find that beef meals freezer better than chicken or pork, but that is just *my* personal preference. Those are the types of meals I have cooked and frozen.
I do not freeze meals but I do cook my meat in advance. For example, I will grill several chicken breasts on Sunday. They will become the weeks meals: Grilled chicken with veggies Chicken Caesar salad Chicken fajitas Chicken stir-fry Chicken fettuccini Etc... I do the same with a roast. It makes it much easier to get meals ready. As long as it is a good variety, it does not seem like we are eating the same meat all week long.
I don't freeze meals for the month. But, I do keep a few prepared meals in the freezer, just in case something comes up and I don't have time to cook. Right now I have lasagna, chili, and tuna casserole in my freezer. Like Karen mentioned, soups, casseroles, lasagna(things with noodles), etc freeze really well. Like Yvonne, I try and cook either a big chicken, or roast on the weekend, and then I use the leftovers to make a few meals during the week.
