Hotel question
We've never taken the kids on a real vacation and would like to this year. The kids will be 8,7 and 3 for a total of 5 people. Most hotels websites tell me that is too many people for a room. Why is that? Kids can't have their own hotel room. Plus sometimes when I search package deals with amusement tickets it says the package is for 5. I'm so confused. Thanks!
Try and get a mini-suite - it will have 2 queen beds and a sofa. One kid gets the sofa, one shares w/mum and one shares w/dad, unless you can convince the kids to sleep in the same bed. You can also sometimes get adjoining rooms with a door between them that you can keep open.
They usually are trying to get you to rent a cot, it's not a code or "rule", just an upsell item that if you call, rather than book online, they will tell you. I travel with a family of 6 We do typically get a suite like Colette mentioned so we can do some cooking as well as sleep comfortably.
You can book a room and either switch kids on the floor or call the hotel and ask if the have roll cots available. Most hotels do not charge for this service.
We love getting the mini-suites- there is more room and you don't have to go to bed the same time the kids do. Snacks and breakfast are sometimes easier with the mini kitchen. Just don't tell them how many people are in the room- we usually leave our yougest off the reservation. I agree with Kym- it's their way of getting more $$ out of you for a cot.
I came from a family of 5 and we slept 5 in a room, plenty of times. My parents would have never paid for another hotel room. It seemed we usually got a rollaway bed, to accomodate the 5th person for sleeping, too. I don't know why it would be a problem. I think I would actually call the hotel and ask them.
