I just don't get this

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2007: I just don't get this
By Debbie on Saturday, March 17, 2007 - 09:38 pm:

I saw my neighbor yesterday(the one I have had some problems with) and she tells me that she had just taken her ds to the doctor and he was sick again, this time with the flu. So, today I am outside with my dks, and here comes her ds to play. My youngest ds has had the flu and strep in the last month, and can't handle being sick again. He is getting very skinny, he lost 5 lbs in the last few months. So, I tell the little boy to go home, that he has the flu, and I don't want my dks to get sick. We all had the flu about 3 weeks ago, and it was terrible. So, my neighbor comes over, and says her ds is fine today. I tell her, he may seem fine, but I don't want to take any chances since the flu is so contagious. I think she was upset with me. I don't get it. There is no way you can get over the flu in one day.

Sounds like she wanted to get rid of him for a while today....

Some parents don't seem to mind slimy slobbery snotty kids playing together. I don't get it either.

Way to go sending him home. I find that situation so annoying. If he was taken to the doctor one day earlier he must have been pretty sick. Paying the co-pay and making the trip to the doctor's office to sit with all the germs and all- you have to imagine he was very sick. She should have called to see if it were okay before sending him over. Some parents are strangely okay with that stuff- I'm not. She should have asked. I was at the gym the other day and the child care manager paged a mother because her daughter was sick with a stomach bug. The mother gave the manager attitude because she wanted to take a shower before picking her up. So instead of taking her sick daughter home she brought her in the shower with her...further exposing people.

Debbie, I wouldn't have wanted that child at my house, either! My best friend and I have cancelled plans because somebody was sick. One time I thought Emily was okay, but then she threw up, which didn't mean her tummy was upset, but that her temp had spiked again. Instead of going to my book discussion, Emily and I went home.

Yuck on the sick kid at the gym, too.

^5 for sending him home! At some point, you have to insulate yourself against other people's feelings/reactions, when it comes to what's best for your own kids. And this is one of those times. It always amazes me how dense or unconcerned some people seem to be.....

Well, I don't have to worry about them for a few days. Dh was outside doing yard work, and they are packing up to go with their family to Branson(it is spring break here) So, they can go contaminate them! I just feel sorry for the poor kid. He has been sick so much. But, god forbid, they should cancel their plans, and let the poor thing stay home and recover. I am sure that is why he just keeps getting sick.
