What cell phone do you have?
This is not a debate on whether or not you have a cell phone or why... Do you like it? My DH is coming home in mid April (we are getting SO excited!) and I wanted to mail him a new cell phone so he can call me when he arrives and not have to wait for a pay phone. (We nee new phones anyway.) I wanted to look into the Razrs...
I have a pink Razr, and I love it! I got it last year for Mother's Day. I like it because it is slim, but the buttons are large and easy to punch. My old flip phone had such little buttons that I had a hard time using it. Also, it is really easy to use overall. Gosh Heidi, your dh will be home soon. I am so happy for you.
I have a Razr and a I really like it - it fits well (purse, pocket, etc.)
My DS Shawn HAD a Razr. He had "pay as you go" T-Mobile, and paid $300.00 (!) for the phone when they first came out. They are very fragile and very thin. One of our cats knocked it off his bureau onto a hardwood floor and it broke. Now he has one through Amp'd Mobile that is much more sturdy. I would think that Scott would want something sturdy as well. The pockets in those BDU's are kind of big and the phone could slide around. The Razr MIGHT be okay for you since you carry yours in your purse. (Although you have Connor. LOL! My DD has a cell phone with a rubber coating on it because my DGD Megan (age 2) has bounced it off the floor a few times).
I have a Razr and a bluetooth device (yes, I'm one of those people you guys hate LOL). I like the Razr.
I have a Nokia flip phone with Cingular service. I love it. We used to have Sprint PCS and it was awful, we couldn't get a signal anywhere. Not even in the grocery store. Now I usually have all bars lit up.
With our last plan, we each got Kyocera Milan flip phones. I thought it was cool and slightly smaller to fit in a pocket, so life was good. Then we got splattered by liquid manure at the fair, fresh out of a cow, so we did laundry right when we got home, and the Milan went through the wash. It wasn't impressed and never worked again. So, we took the older Kyocera phone to US Cellular and they activated it for us. It's slighty bigger and not a flip phone. Bummer. It's a KX414 Phantom phone. It does work, though, just not as cool as a flip. DH had a KX414 for work, too, but they all just got new phones. Now he has a Motorola 325i camera flip phone. So, he has the two cooler phones, and we are stuck with the old one. I think things will change, when we have to go get Sarah a cellphone to take to college. They all work fine. For me, it's a "cool" factor in which I'm lacking.
I have a Treo 700p from Verizon with and unlimited data plan so I get email, web browsing, text, right on my phone. It's like a mini pc! I can create, edit and send Word & Excel documents, it's an EBook reader and a media player, oh gosh! It does so much! It's Bluetooth, it syncs with Outlook so I have my entire schedule and all my phone and email contacts. It does still photos, video and sends them as messages ... Oh, and it's a nice phone, too Ame
I would advise against the RAZR. I currently work for Cingular, and we have a LOT of problems with that phone. I bought an unlocked SLVR, which is the "candy bar" (flat) version of the RAZR, and I am so unhappy with it. I'm going back to Samsungs ASAP!!! As for service, I've lived all over the east and midwest now, and T-Mobile is the best provider I've found, even after working for a few providers, and having tried all the major companies. Just my 2 cents!
So, Crystal, what problems occur with the Razr? What phone do you recommend?
A lot of warranty exchanges on them, for problems from poor reception, cracked parts, dead screens, speaker going out. Honestly, I am partial towards Samsung slider phones, the slide protects the buttons and make sit compact enough to fit anywhere. I know with my SLVR, I can't hold it against my shoulder and talk, the caller is unable to hear me. The screen on both models smudges very easily, it shows every little fingerprint, and the camera quality is poor compared to other phones with on the same level. There are some cool features on the RAZR and SLVR, but check out the c-net reports on them, a lot of users find the cons outweight the pros.
I have sprint and love it. My dh and I turned our phones to no roaming so we would not have to pay extra for it. I almost never have a problem with reception. I had a nextel before and it was terrible. They are the same company now but still have seperate towers and you buy one contract or the other.
Wow Crystal, I wish I'd talked to you before I got a new phone. LOL I didn't intend to get the Razr when I did, but the Friday before Christmas, my 4 y/o cell phone just died, and it's a business cell phone, so I *had* to get a new one right away. I went to the Sprint store where we got all of our company phones and since it was Christmas, they were out of so many of them, so I ended up with the Razr. The only problem I've had with it is, 3 times now, it's kept ringing and no button pushing would make it stop and I had to rip the battery out to stop it. The first time that happened I was in the gym and had the office phones forwarded to my cell, and it was so embarrassing, since I *thought* I had turned the ringer down on the phone. LOL As for everything else, I love it. And the Razr is sturdier than the phone I had before - it had actually bent or curved, and the battery would not stay connected.
Crystal, since you work for Cingular, why don't you recommend their service? I am curious, because we have Cingular, and I love it. I get reception everywhere, and we have never had any problems with them. I do agree that the screen on the Razr smudges easily. This is the only negative that I have experienced, but it doesn't bother me.
Debbie, I work for a 3rd party vendor that has a customer care contract for Cingular. We do not have much coverage in this area, the CEO came and had ONE tower installed, because he asked why he always roamed on t-mobile when here, and found out we had no towers. Still, I loved Cingular when I lived in South FL, but when I moved to TX (I know now that they are in different billing systems, which caused a lot of the problems) I had nothing but trouble. Plus, I can honestly say that I don't feel our rate plans and text packages are competitive with the other carriers. For me, I used over 5000 texts a month, and the largest plan Cing has is 3000, and it's more expensive than the unlimited plans offered by most companies.
Wow!! 5000 texts? I think I've sent like 5-6 texts, in the whole life of our cellphones! Mostly because it would cost us money to send each one, though. DH doesn't like to text and won't play along with me.
My plan with Verizon has unlimited texting to any Verizon Phone for $5 a month. Ame
