Quick question....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2007: Quick question....
By Jtsmom on Saturday, February 24, 2007 - 12:49 pm:

Does anyone know of a way to see if a teacher has had any complaints filed against them with the school system? Thanks

I don't know of a way of doing that. What kind of a complaint? Parents disagree with teachers about 10x a day, so there are always "complaints" coming and going. If it's a matter of performance based on an observation/evaluation by an administrator, then that is private in the personnel file. For example, if a teacher is undergoing a yearly review and his/her performance is questionable, then meetings and paperwork follow that and all reviews are kept on file for each teacher. That's a matter of evaluated performance though.

If it's a legal complaint, I would think that would have been made public anyway. (Such as a teacher being aggressive with a student for example.)I don't know of a way that parents "file a complaint" against a teacher. If a parent is unhappy, they meet with teacher/administrators to either resolve the problem or remove the child from the class.

You might check your state's education agency website and see if the have a database of all teachers and see what info you can get from it. We have one in this state that gives you some information about each teacher, but I can't remember if disciplinary isses were a part of it.

You can call the school board and ask them :)
