Superbowl food ideas...
Dh is having a party for Superbowl and wondering what you would suggest as good food ideas, not expensive, besides chips and dip and that sort of thing. We are asking each couple to bring something too. Dh is going to make some sausages to have on rolls, I know this is last minute, any good ideas?
I was going to ask the same thing. I am toying with throwing something in the crockpot to serve as sandwiches. Either meat balls and spaghetti sauce with subs, or bbq meat with buns. I think you can't have a party with out a cheese dip and crackers. My favorite is very easy. You take 1 package of cream cheese, 1 container of feta cheese, mix together, this is the filling. Take a provolone cheese slice, add a layer of filling, top with a layer of sundried tomatos and basil pesto, then repeat, think of it as a lasagna, where the provone is the noodle layer. Not sure what else I will do.
I saw a cooking show this weekend on superbowl party food - mostly it was stuff like various kinds of chicken wings, chili, subs, pizza, dips, that kind of stuff.
We do the little hillshire farms mini weinie's in bbq sauce, in the crockpot. We also do 7 layer bean dip. There is a recipe for a really great dip on the back of the triscuits cracked pepper crackers box. We love it, but we use regular triscuits to eat it with, instead of the cracked pepper ones.
This is my favorite Superbowl snack but it's possibly the most fattening thing I've ever eaten. So, I only make it for Superbowl or if it's requested for a friend's house. Mississippi Sin Dip 1 loaf french bread 1 8 oz. container french onion dip 1 4 oz. can green chilies (drained) 1 package bacon bits 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened -Cut off top of bread (save for later) and hollow out french bread (by hollow out, I mean take out enough bread for dip to fit inside, you don't have to hollow it into an absolute shell). -Mix all ingredients in bowl, place inside bread, place top back on. -Wrap in aluminum foil , place on cookie sheet and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees -Serve with large corn chips (or chip or cracker of your choosing).
If you want something for a sandwich, mamwich or sloppy joes are really easy! I don't personally care for them, but most people like it. It is great to do in a crock pot. Keep it on the low setting or the warm setting and it stays ready to eat all day long! A good hearty easy dip is to mix Armour chili with beans and chedder cheese soup from Campbell's together and eat with Tostidos. Another great snack. Take large flour tortillas and cut them into four wedges. Drop them in hot oil (I use my electric skillet so I can do many at one time) for just a few seconds on each side. When they bubble up take them out and drain them on paper towels till cool enough to handle. Roll them in a cinnamon and sugar mixture and eat! They are SOOO good and SOOOO easy!!! You can also cut them in strips, but they just seem better in the big wedges!
Chili is one of our faves.Italian or swedish meatballs covered with Diana bbq sauce on low in the crockpot is also good.(Maple flavour Diana sauce is really yummy) Layered Dip-in 9x9 sq pan-1 layered -1 1b cooked lean ground beef(spread out evenly on botton) -2 pkgs of soft creamed cheese of top of ground beef -1 tub of sour cream on creamed cheese -2 cup shredded cheddar cheese on sour cream -1 cup shredded lettuce on ched cheese -2 chopped tomatoes on lettuce -1 bag of nacho chips- This side dish can be made the night before and is quite filling with the ground beef Enjoy
Cheese, sausage and crackers Veggies and dip
Just got home from work, and these are all sounding great! I'm going to show my dh and make some tasty decisions!!
We always do subs, chili, a few dips with a veggie tray & chips.
My husband has one request when it comes to game day food: nothing that requires any utensils!! Finger foods only.
My MIL makes "little pizzas" on some kind of small square bread. They're delicious. We also make a crockpot cheese dip - a lb. of Velveeta with 2 cans of chili and tostito chips. I'm also making a mexican dip this year which is YUMMY!! I'll post it later. Plus a dessert of some kind - something sinful and FULL of calories.
