Bermuda
Has anyone been there? What do you think of it? I want to plan our first cruise and since I am deathly afraid of sinking, I found that Bermuda is the closest place to go.
LOL,No advice,but I understand the fear.
Sandy, it may be the closest, but by far, not the best place to go. If you are into water sports stuff, you would need to go in the summer for water to be warm, and then, you are going during hurricane season. Why not try a 5 day cruise to Cozumel/Grand Cayman/Jamaica? Once you are out over the open water, it makes no difference if you are 8 hours from land or 18 hours from land. Going to the Caribbean gives you the option of going pretty much any time of the year at all and a guarantee that the weather will be warm/hot and so will the water. Just keep in mind, hurricane season runs from June through November, though it is rare for hurricanes to occur in November. We cruise every year in November. And cruise ships are SAFE, period.
Sandy, what about a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas?
Bermuda is not the place to go if you are a frightened cruiser. It is in the North Atlantic and that water is ALWAYS rough compared to the Caribbean. The chance of hitting a storm on the way is good. You won't sink, but you will be tossed around and possibly sick. For your first time I'd suggest leaving from a Florida port and sailing to Nassau. Bermuda is a fun destination, but the getting there can be rough.
But, I'd have to fly to Florida and I'm afraid to fly.
Drive to Florida
We drive to Florida from Ontario every March. It's not a bad drive.
I have to agree with the others. Bermuda would not be the place that I'd go for my first cruise. My husband and I did it two years ago and I've never rocked and rolled so much in my life. Many of the crew were sea sick as well as the majority of the passengers.
