We've been invited to a party at dh's work this saturday. It's in a Boston hotel and the dress is "cocktail party casual" - can I get away with a pretty blouse and dress pants? All the dresses I looked at were way to cocktail partyish and not casual at all.

I have also never met any of these people so I have no idea what they will be wearing.

I think a little simple black dress would be good, but it is winter, so I think you could do either.

I would probably do black pants with a wider leg and pretty shoes. Pair it with a pretty blouse, and you're all set. You can always stash some sparkley jewelery in your purse and scope people out once you arrive. If you feel under-dressed at all, go to the ladies room and put on your rhinestone necklace and bracelet
