Oklahoma storm update.
I live in Southeastern Oklahoma (mcAlester)and it was Bad and still is bad. We lost electricity Friday night and we just got it back today. I have or had 2 oak trees and 1 ash tree that there is nothing left of them. We didn't get snow or sleet we got freezing rain. We had about 4 inches of ice on our powerlines and trees. I am thankfull for having natural gas we could cook but our heat is gas but it central and need electricity to work but we have a small gas fireplace that keep us warm. We all slept in the living room and blocked off the hall to keep it some what warmer. To look outside it looks like a bomb went off. I think every tree in McAlester is eather broken or knocked down. just down the street from us a neighbors big huge oak came up from the roots and fell on there roof caving it in. Its horrible. I have pictures that I will try and post or if someone on here can do them for me. dh work is on a generator and they are were able to stay open. He is a manager at Drug Warehouse and they have been so busy its horrible people trying to buy oil for there lamps, flash lights, batteries, and portable radios and the hand crank type things. We have 1200 men from different power companies here. we haven't heard any relife from fema yet or we keep hearing its on its way. We lost everying in our big freezer we tried cooking what we could and puting the rest outside to keep cool but it turned bad a few days ago.But I thank god no one was hurt.
{{{hugs}}} I was worried about you Shann. I saw how bad it was, and remembered you lived SE of Oklahoma City. We got lucky that we only had sleet...about 4 inches, but better then the freezing rain. School was still out all week. Hang in there. I am glad you finally got power.
I am so sorry that your town looks like a disaster area. What are the local authorities doing to begin recovery? This too shall pass. Hang in there.
I'm glad you are okay, but sorry that you've had a rough couple of days.
Happy to hear you are ok.
Shann, when we had our ice storm in 93, our insurance paid for our damaged trees. It was unbelievable, but state farm agent called us after we received electricity. She told me to get an estimate of all food lost, freezer, refrig and she came up and did an estimate on our trees. These were trees that ranged 5-75 years old. It was a substantial check and we never thought our insurance would pay for anything like that.
as of now nothing from fema or any other help that we know of we keep listening to the radio to get any info. We got most of the tree damage done today. Dh and I got most of it done we have about a 15ftlong and 4 foothig pile of tree limbs. I was more worried about our trees that landed in the neighbors yard. it didn't do any damage thank goodness. dk are were out all last week and we ran into a teacher at walmart and they said they still didn't have electricity and that the date for them to get it wouldn't be until the 25th so more than likely they will be out all this upcomming week. So they will have alot to make up. it looks really bad now that most of the ice is gone. its depressing to see all the damage. T
Wow, Shann. I hope things get better for you guys soon. I know after our first blizzard this year it looked like a war zone out there. But we didn't lose any trees or anything (this area looses trees in hail storms). Hugs
That is terrible. I hope that they get you all help soon. We had our first decent snow here in Illinois last night. I was totally suprised. But it was a nice snow. Great for sledding, building snow men ect.. But the roads were not bad.
I saw your pictures. I'm glad you are ok.
