3 yr old boy found on interstate...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: 3 yr old boy found on interstate...

I'm not sure how to post an article from the internet, but I saw this on tv earlier and it's on all the news websites online. There was a little three year old boy found playing on a highway in Indianapolis wearing only a teeshirt and diaper, running in the snow lane, if not for a few quick thinking drivers this little guy would've surely been killed. They say he got around a fence out of the apartment complex that he lived in, he was able to show them where he lived, and when they entered the apartment "Mom", if you can call her that had been sleeping and his little 2 year old sister was sitting on the floor eating old canned spaghetti, "Mom" was very nonchalant and said "Oh, he got out again". Can you believe that? I know that he had an angel on his shoulder. Poor little guy, I hope they take both little children away from her and prosecute her, she is in jail now. Amazing isn't it???

wow, that's amazing. really some people should NOT be allowed to be parents. Those poor children. :(

Well, here's even more: CPS had already been to her house earlier in the week to respond to a call that the children were playing outside unsupervised. Sad.

I couldn't believe this story! Indy is about an hour from me. The info about the house didn't surprise me, I've so BTDT. I had not heard that CPS had been to the house though, and the report I read said the home was in a terrible condition of human waste and filth. So it wasn't like that earlier in the week? It's been my experience that it takes waaaaay too much to get kids pulled out of a home, hence playing on the interstate!

So sad. The mother is one of those people (IMO) that should not be able to bear any more children.

Very sad. He's lucky to be alive. I heard about that earlier today.

Oh my goodness!! Yes, I hope that the children are put in protective services and that "Mom" can get some help! What is the future for children like this, if not protected?

Very, very sad. I'm sure if it was in the paper that CPS is now involved. Poor children.

Wow. I understand kids getting out. When we first lived here and were staying in temporary housing on base (like little apartments) we were at the playground one morning and a little boy, about 2 or 3 wandered through the trees that seperated base housing from the temporary housing. He was in a onesie and a diaper that was soaked. He just ran right to the playground and started playing! Another mom and I didn't go and get him (we didn't want to scare him), but just kept a close eye on him and after about 5 minutes a frantic mom came running through the trees. He'd let himself out of the house while she was in the shower. She knew where to look for him because he'd done it before. Not a busy highway, but still scary. But after reading that article about the little boy and then his sister eating spaghetti off the floor, AND the mom's nonchalant attitude about the whole things, yes, those kids need to be removed from that home. They're not safe. :(

I think a lot of children "escape" at one time or another. But to not be frantic about it worries me. I would have been a mess if they had told me they had found my child, let alone on a highway.

This makes me sssoooooo angry. There are caring couples out there trying to have babies, using fertility drugs, and here she is just popping them out and not even caring.

It's called a LOCK, lady, and you can put one at the TOP of a door. I think I'd be checking that house for drugs too....:(

I read on another board that they boy was autistic. Which immediately made me think of my nephew who is autistic because this is something he would do. Of course my sister would be frantic not non chalant. My sister just moved to Indy also and lives in an apt by 465. She is going to have a lock installed high up on her door. Since she is a single parent there will be times she has to shower ect..

All I can say is

ugh. :(

Ditto HEIDI!!!!!! If the child IS in fact special needs, that's all the more reason that's he's watched closely.
