OK, I'm on a roll tonight...
How come we get new users on here that sign in to the newcomers place but don't use the board as frequently as we do? Are we intimidating? Should we put a link with all the acronyms at the top? Is it because we don't have a life? ha ha ha...only kidding. Just curious...
I think people browse the internet, stumble upon us, think it would be fun to participate, and then realize it's not for them. I don't think it's that they don't have the time, I think that it's that they'd rather spend their free time in other pursuits. It just ends up not being for them. I don't think we're intimidating, but it can probably feel awkward to break into a group, especially if they lurk for awhile and see the same names pop up over and over. They may feel they are intruding. Many join just so they can ask a question or respond to a post, but that's all they wanted and then they disappear. I'm not sure any of those folks bother with the newcomer board, though.
As a newcomer myself I don't think you are at all intimidating. In fact I find everyone very welcoming. I'm relatively new to the site, but I've never been to the newcomer place- I'm not really sure why, probably due to lack of time. I was doing a search last night on something and a post from the website came up-- so I guess it's coming up a lot in google searches. I find this site to be wonderful-- I'm thankful for being introduced to it.
I have come and gone myself over the years, mostly because my computer would totally shut down and by the time I got it fixed I hadn't been here in a while and that felt weird. Then I'd wait and it got weirder, lol. I recommend this site to moms all the time but I don't know if any of them have ever joined the message board, or maybe they just get the newsletter.
Ok your right I don't know what all the acronyms are. But I kinda figured some out. ds, dds, dh clueless on what it stands for but in context I can get it. What does it stand for anyway? Thanx in advanced
Didn't we used to have a list somewhere? D=Dear or Darling ds=dear son dd=dear daughter dh=dear husband dss=dear step son dsd=dear step daughter dk=dear kids MIL=mother in law FIL=father in law That's all I can think of right now as far as people go. Any other additions?
