Magazines for kids
I want to get both my dks magazine subscriptions for Christmas, but I'm not sure what to get them. My dd is 10 going on 11 and is really into the "tween" thing. I have looked at some of the teen magazines and I think they are still a little advanced for her. She doesn't need to be reading about how to win and keep a boyfriend at her age. LOL She isn't really into the kiddie magazines anymore though. Any ideas? My ds is 6 going on 7 and I was thinking of maybe National Geographic for kids or Ranger Rick or something like that. My ds likes animals, trains, and building things. What do your little boys like to read? TIA!
My dd has been getting Muse magazine for years. My son gets Odyssey magazine. Here is a link to their site http://www.cricketmag.com/shop_magzines.asp
I get the ChickaDEE for my DD,it's for ages 6 to 9.OWL is for ages 9-13.You can subsribe online at www.owlkids.com/yes.
My DD, 10, loves her 'American Girl' magazine. 'Highlights' might be good for your son. You might want to check the kid magazines at the library for ideas.
My daughter loves her American Girl Magazine. When my son was younger, he liked National Geographic for kids. He now enjoys Sports Illustrated for kids.
My DS (10) loves Sports Illustrated for Kids. DD (8) likes Zoo Books.
We've gotten Sports Illustrated for Kids (too old for my dks at the time), Disney Adventures (I think??), Zoo Books and National Geographic for Kids. Zoo Book and NG were by far the most enjoyed. They still get NG from my father and all three of them look at it for days after it shows up. We've kept them and they've been a good resource for animal reports and "fun facts". My dks range in age from 5-9yo and have been getting NG for three Christmases now.
Mine love Zoo Books and National Geographic for Kids. My son gets Zoo Books still, and he also really loves Boy's Life. He has recently discovered the Disney magazine which actually has little to do with typical disney characters. He is seven. My dd just the other day bought a magazine called Pop Star, I think. If you go to the magazine section of Wal-mart, they have several magazines with tv and music stars that are young. Think High School Musical, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hilary Duff, etc. She wanted a magazine so badly, but even the "teen" magazines were too old for her, because they talked about keeping your boyfriend, etc. We weren't ready for that. She really loves this magazine, and wants to try another soon. Ranger Rick and the younger version of that one, My Big Backyard, or something to that effect, was very good. My Cub Scouts (2nd graders) are enjoying looking at those this year. By the way, my kids are ds, 7 and dd, 10.
My boys are ages 4 to 18 and we subscribe to National Geographic for Kids, Kids Discover, Mad Magazine and Mad Magazine for Kids (the original Mad is for the older kids - and me. ).
Thanks for all the suggestions! We have had subscriptions to Zoobooks and Highlights in the past and are looking for something new this year. I used to get "National Geographic Kids" when I was a little girl (it was "National Geographic Explorer" back then) and I loved it so I may go with that for my 1st grader. I'll have to look into the "Pop Star" and the "American Girl" magazines for my 5th grader.
Both of my girls ages 11 and 8 love Discovery Girls. It is good clean "tween" magazine. Check it out on discoverygirls.com
My DD likes Girl's Life.
How about girls life?
At age 7 my sons loved (still does) discovery kids. It is a science magazine. My dd gets the highlights puzzle thing, I think it is called top secret, it is a little adventure you do each month. We also like disney magazine.
I ended up ordering Discovery Girl for my dd and Ranger Rick for my ds. Thanks again for all the suggestions!
