Never cut onions BEFORE you put your lenses in.

My eyes are fine now, but it took about 5 minutes for the tears to clear up!

Oh no! Want another helpful hint? Use rubber gloves if you cut up hot peppers, otherwise you don't dare rub your eyes, for days!! Ouch. (yes, personal experience!)
