Fresh Peanut Butter
The kids and I made some Fresh Paeanut Butter at the health food store last night. I forgot to ask how to store it. Do any of you know how to store it and how long it will last?
yumm....I wonder if I can do that here? We buy natural peanut butter, we store it in the fridge so it doesn't seperate as fast (or melt as my son would say..lol). What all is in your pb? Peanuts have an unlimited shelf life, in a seal container, same goes for salt and oil.
Keep it in the fridge. An easy way to mix it is to put one beater on a electric hand mixer - do it over the sink.
I think it's just peanuts. Thats all that the grinder had ontop of it. There hasn't been any seperation, it's just peanut butter no top layer of oil.
Coincidentally, the issue of Consumer Reports that arrived in my mailbox yesterday discusses this very question. CR says "Regular peanut butter does not need refrigertion, though tht might help retain its flavor. Refrigeration will keep natural peanut butter fresh and slow the process of separation, but will make it hard to spread." If you keep it long enough unrefrigerated, natural peanut butter will separate a bit. I used to buy 10 pounds a month from my local co-op, but never had it last long enough to separate much, what will 3 teenage male appetites in the house.
INteresting, the stuff I buy (from peanut butter and co) seperates very quickly in the pantry. There is one with choc in it and doesn't. I had a dream about making my own pb last night...i must spend too much time on the board!
I make my own peanutbutter in my vitamix blender. The kids prefer that to regular store bought. I keep mine in the fridge.
Perfect, thank you guys. I have it in the Fridge and it seems I am the only one who likes it. Oh well...I tried.
LOL I didn't even know people made/ate "natural" peanut butter. It's JIF for me!!! LOL
I love natural peanut butter, but I've never made my own...Instructions?
I just throw a can of honey roasted peanuts in my Vitamix blender until well blended. I don't know if a regular blender is strong enough to mix it up but a food processor will work. You can use plain peanuts if you want.
