Quick ladies what to give my grandson for constipation??
He's a yr and a half old, he is constipated and miserable! Any ideas?? He has fruit, and juice. What else? Anything otc meds?
Prune juice!!!!!
Mineral oil.. goodness, I have heard this talked about for years and never tried it until this summer. Faith was having some contapation issues this summer. I bought some at Kmart, and its very cheap(Under 2$). I mixed some in with her applesause, she ate it.. Within 2 hrs, she was the pooping queen. It really cleaned her, she must of went 4 or 5 times that day.
Please, call the doctor first. YOu don't know what is causing the constipation. What does his mother say? How long has this been going on? I'm sorry he's miserable, but I really wouldn't give anything other than prune juice, fruit juice, etc., without talking to the doctor first.
Hi again ladies, I think she hasn't been giving enough liquids, after I did some research on the internet it said that if there aren't enough liquids given that the body will take the liquids from the stool and that will result in firm, hard stools that are difficult to pass. This last week Adam was home and they have been doing alot of running and she admitted that she probably hadn't been giving him enough to drink. He did end up going, and I mean alot, and now he seems fine, but initally it was hard to pass, I don't want to gross anyone out, but it wasn't hard pellet like pieces but firm and chunky, but alot of poo. We didn't give him anything but water and he seems fine now! If he has trouble tomorrow though she will need to call the doctor. Thanks all, I knew I could count on all of you...
She needs to be careful that it doesn't become in issue where he is afraid to poop because of the pain and purposely holds it in. I babysat a boy in my daycare who did that and was so constipated that the doctor said it was backed up to his liver! It didn't help that the mother gave him chocolate milk every morning.
Kondremul (vanilla flavored mineral oil) in the front end and Tucks (formerly Anusol - not the one with the hydrocortisone) in the other. My son had issues with constipation. This was good to get him to go, then we had to make sure we increased his fiber (Benefiber) and kept him well hydrated. For Helen, we did Miralax (great, great stuff) - needs a prescription. However, Ditto Ginny on calling the doc. Ame
More great suggestions, thanks again...
