Red Ribbon Week
Is coming up at our school the week of the 16th and DS Brett's Guidance Counselor emailed me today and would like to do something to remember and remind people of the danger after DSS Josh's passing away 2 years ago from a prescription overdose. Any ideas what Brett's class could do? I have been thinking about this and so hasn't his Counselor. TIA
I would first ask Brett how he feels about Josh's death being a focus or impetus for something his class does in school. If he's OK with it, can the class research, maybe on the internet, how many people under the age of 18 have died as a result of a illegal or prescription drug overdose in X period of time in X communities? Each student could take a state or city or county. If the info can't be found on the internet, maybe each student could write to the chief of police in a city and ask that question.
Thanks Ginny. Brett is ok with talking about it. The counselor at the school would like Brett to talk about this at there rally, his feelings, how it affected our family. Now we just have to figure it all out. To write it all down and get it together for next week.
What is red ribbon week? I've never heard of it. It sounds interesting.
It is the Anti-Drug week. or at least that is what it is in Texas.
Thats what it is here to....and DSS died of a prescription drug overdose in 2003...so that is why I am asking for help with this.
Oh OK we do the D.A.R.E. program here at our school. I think it is wonderful that Brett wants to participate and talk about Josh and his feelings. I was very touched by the birthday poem. I believe he will do a good job next week. Sorry I don't have any suggestions.
