To those with credit cards...
DH and I decided to cancel our AMEX delta cards because they were "giving" us a companion ticket each year yet charging us a yearly fee. The ticket you had to buy in order to get a companion ticket would have been just as much, if not more, than it would be to just buy 2 tickets on Expedia or travelocity. They started to do it this year and it t!cked me off to no end so I cancelled them before they charged us for this year. So...we want to use a CC that either pays us back $ on our purchases or is actually a good airline miles card. We pay our CC bills on time, every month, in full, so don't start a debate...please. We use them to get extras, if YKWIM.
We use Citibank Rewards. I've been with them since I was 20. You get 5% cash back on gas, groceries, & prescriptions, and 1% back on everything else. You redeem your reward on your won, once you get to a minimum of $50. I usually redeem it around $100 or so if I think about it, then I get a check in the mail and go buy something fun. We use our cc for gas and scripts, and any larger purchases just so we can get the cash reward. I charged all my Masters classes and got almost 2 paid for with rewards. We also do not carry a balance on our cards and don't have a problem doing that, so the rewards really works for us. We use our card for the things we're going to buy anyway, so we get the rewards as a bonus. I really like Citibank.
Is there an annual fee on the Citibank Rewards card?
We use the rewards points on Amex. There is a yearly fee, but if you buy everything - groceries, gas, on your amex if works out - dh also is able to use it for large purchases at work and the co. reimburses him, so it really works out for us. I don't use the points for plane tickets, but I do use them for gift cards and hotel rooms.
Nope! That's what's great! Citi also has a Points Rewards, but I don't want prizes, I want cash.
We also use American Express. There is a yearly fee, but we charge everything...groceries, gas, etc. We earn about 3 or 4 tickets a year, so it is worth the fee. I also have a Chase Visa Rewards, we don't use it as often, but we get rewards from it. There is no fee. We were able to redeem $450.00 worth of hotel points to stay at a Marriot Hotel last year. But, I think it took us a few years to earn it since we don't use it much.
We just started using USAirways, for us in Arizona we have a lot of flights available. We charge ALOT, because of business expenses, there buddy ticket is only 99.00 and you get two a year, plus they had a great signon bonus, I think 25000 miles. I think the fee is 59.00/year.
Kym, why would you have a credit card with a fee, when so many of them are no fee and also offer free miles?
I just got an offer from HSBC for a cc with no fee and no interest for 12 months and 1% cash back. Check it out. Ame
Deanna, that sounds great...I already have a citibank so that would be great just to switch it over to a rewards card. Thanks!
Glad to help. I really like it!
