How to get rid of Fleas....
We have a dog and have recently put her out and now fleas are attacking everyone in our house but they getting Christopher really bad. He looks like he has a disease. I have tried flea powder for the carpets and spray that is safe for theirr beds and the funiture and i can't get rid of them. I got up this morning to get dressed for work and was wearing light colored pants and looked down and they were all over my pants legs. PLEASE HELP!! How can I get rid of them!!
Go to your vet and first, treat your dog. Get Frontline Plus and treat her/him. Then, ask them about a "bomb" to treat the house. Only use something approved by the vet, and follow the directions carefully. You all will have to be out of the house, as well as any other pets including fish, birds, turtles, etc. Actually bringing the dog back into the house after he/she is treated will help you to get rid of the fleas, too. Fleas prefer animals as the host, and when they bite the dog with the Frontline they will die. The ones who survive cannot reproduce. The fleas are attacking the humans in the house because their primary host is outside. Don't use over the counter flea treatments as some are toxic to pets and humans. Good luck.
This may also sound funny but after you use the "bomb" make sure you vacuum a few times. This will help to get any leftover eggs or fleas out of the carpet. And when you finish vacuuming make sure to change the bag or empty the container. My FIL (pest control guy) says that one of the best ways to get rid of the fleas is to treat the pet (go to the vet) and then vacuum but it sounds like you might need more since you seem to have a big problem. Good luck!
Treat outside too!!!! People ALWAYS forget that and get upset when the fleas don't go away. 1- Bathe the dog in flea shampoo 2- Treat the dog with Frontline Plus (you can also get "Capstar" from the vet. It's a pill that kills fleas starting in just 30 minutes. Awesome stuff. Great to use while waiting for Frontline to kick in.) 3- Treat your yard. 4- Treat your house, including washing dog beds if there are any. 5- Preventative measures. Keep the dog on Frontline. Apply it once monthly.
We use Sentinel for our dogs. It's a once-a-month tablet. I don't like the liquid applications. They tend to make the spot oily and grimey looking on pale animals.
We bombed our house while the dog was at the vet. Go to the pet store and buy the bombs and the frontline plus. Good luck.
