We Went to a Craft Fair This Weekend.......
Our town has one every year during this weekend in September. It is held on the town green. It is mostly local crafters and they have food vendors and music. Yesterday they had a Bluegrass band. Today, they had a Medieval music ensemble. It's great fun. It's free and you just walk around and bump into everyone you know. You can even take a ride in a horse pulled wagon. Our local police K9 officer was there, too, with his dog and the little kids loved it. I bought a "whirlygig" that looks like a red cardinal. They are wooden birds that you mount on a pole and when the wind blows, the wings go around. A man in town makes them. He also takes orders if you want something he doesn't have. I also bought a beautiful quilted purse. It has a black background with a colourful brocade flower print. It is like a Vera Bradley in that it has an outside pocket and six inside pockets, and a zippered top. It was only twenty five dollars which was very reasonable because it is beautifully made. They also had quilts, pillows, handmade sweaters, homemade jellies, local honey, handmade wooden clocks and lots of jewelry; mostly beadwork and sea glass. Being a small town, it is a great way to get out and see your neighbours. I am going to start knitting again. One lady had some lovely handmade sweaters. I saw an adorable one for my grandaughter. It was a pullover with a hood and it zipped up the back. However, the biggest one she had was 18 months and Megan would need at least a size 2. I didn't want to spend thirty dollars for it and have her outgrow it before winter. I think I have a pattern for that style. I will make her one myself.
I love these type of craft/art shows! Especially in the fall when I'm feeling more ambitious. I love to see what others create. My dh likes them, as well, as they are usually accompanied by many different food vendors. I don't mind that part, either, lol. And our dd loves seeing all the people and their pets. She won't pass anyone with a four legged friend without asking to visit and pet their dog. Have fun knitting. I did that years ago and enjoyed it. Hand knit baby sweaters are so precious.
We have the "Fall Fling" the beginning of October. Main Street is closed off and vendors set up booths all up and down the street. We look forward to it every year...
I LOVE craft fairs! We don't have too many this early but in another couple of months, there will be several every weekend. I really enjoy seeing what other people can make with their own two hands. I've just started knitting and I'm eager to move past the scarf stage.
