Kidney Infection Question...
Okay I was diagnosed last friday with a kidney infection put on antibiotics (Macrobid) and given pain meds (Darvocet). I took those over the weekend and my dr told me to call on Tuesday if I wasn't getting better, so I did. They called in another prescription on Tuesday for Flavoxate HCL (whatever that is). They said to call back on Thursday and let them know how I was doing. So... I called back yesterday and told them that I was not feeling much better at all and I was going to take my last dose of antibiotic Thursday night. They called in more antibiotic to last me through the weekend. Here is my real question... I haven't had a kidney infection since I was in High School. Is it normal for it to last this long and not have gotten hardly any better? I am still taking pain pills (almost out) and I am nauseous ALL the time. I don't throw up but I could if I let myself. I really don't want to go back to the dr right now but I don't seem to be getting better and I am really sick and tired of feeling like this. Does anyone have any BTDT or suggestions on what I should do. This is really the 3rd week I have been dealing with UTI stuff.. I was DXed with a bladder infection on the 22nd of Aug. and took antibiotics for that until the following sunday. I don't know what is normal or if my dr is right about just continuing the antibiotics. And should I try to suffer through the weekend or call and see if they will call in a refill of the pain pills? I hurt (pretty bad) all the time but try to only take them at night. Thanks for any replies.
Yes, it can take this long. And can be excruciatingly painful. I had a kidney infection once, at a time when my then dh was between jobs and we were staying with my parents. He took me to the doctor, we filled the scrips (this was back in the late 50s), we got home, and I passed out and was out of it for 3 days, with my dh and mom feeding me the meds and liquids. Yes, call for more pain meds. But be aware that pain meds have to be processed by the kidneys also. If you are not feeling better by Monday, demand an immediate referral and immediate emergency visit with a urologist.
Bladder infections I could tell you about- but not kidney. Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon!
Can't give you any advice here. But I just wanted to let you know that sometimes the pain meds can cause extreme nausea. Make sure you take them with meals.
