Bad Mommy Moment!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: Bad Mommy Moment!
By Reds9298 on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 04:18 pm:

Natalie were leaving Target today, I put her in her car seat, then started dealing with putting all of our bags into the floor of the backseat. I had to do some re-arranging, then got in and took off. Before we were out of the parking lot, Natalie says "Mommy you forgot my seat belt"!!!!!!! I couldn't believe I forgot to strap her in!

I'm sooooooo glad she told me, AND told me before we got on the road (although parking lots are bad enough). I felt like a real jerk. If she hadn't said anything I know I would have never even thought about it. That's never happened before. What a dummy. :( I'm so thankful she told me. It makes me cringe to think otherwise.

Sorry, that should start "Natalie and I..."

By Tink on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 04:27 pm:

Oh, Deanna! I'm sure most of us have done that at least once...well, not including Trina!:) I know I've done it one time with my older two. I think I learned my lesson by the time Bella came along since I haven't forgotten with her. Just consider it a lesson learned.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 04:28 pm:

(((Deanna))) Happens to the best of us, I did it once when the kids were infants, I forgot to buckle Shane in, and drove the 15 minutes home like that. :( I felt AWFUL!

BTDT, and I'm a CPS Tech! Just the fact that Natalie spoke up and let you know she wasn't buckled proves that she has been taught to be safe in the car. I bet you won't forget this for a long time, and will be careful not to let it happen again. :)

By Emily7 on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 06:17 pm:

I have done it too!

By Andi on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 06:17 pm:

Another BTDT. I did it once or twice with Dylan but he told me as soon as I sat down and started the car. I would hear.MOOOOOMMMMMYYYYYY you forgot my buckle!!!!! I did it once with Tay and she also told me before we actually started driving.

You are not alone my dear. :)

By Nicki on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 07:32 pm:

Me, too. I know how you feel! I felt so badly that I haven't forgotten, since.

By Hlgmom on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 07:44 pm:

Count me in! Don't be too hard on yourself! We all make mistakes!

By Kiki on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 08:15 pm:

Don't feel bad. At some time or another we have all done something like that. I fogot to strap Gabby into her carrier when she was an infant. It happens.

By Tripletmom on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 08:53 pm:

BTDT-Just stop thinking about the what if's...You've done great on teaching her how important it is to buckle up.^Natalie,Way to go.Forgive yourself((HUGS))

Sarah would tell us, once she got old enough, and Emily, even before she could talk, would cry, if we forgot! They sure learn that routine, soon enough! We usually never got very far, before we realized it and took care of it.

High 5 to Natalie from me, too!

(It happened more than once to us! Once, when Sarah was an infant, as I was driving away from the house, I realized myself, that I hadn't fastened her carseat with the seatbelt. *blush*)

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 09:43 pm:

Yeppers, BTDT!

My son doesn't like to wear his seat belt, but he knows that he has to. There have been times when we are running errands that he forgets, and he doesn't notice until we get to our next destination and he goes to take off his seat belt only to find that it's not there. GASP!

BTDT and got fussed at by the kiddo, too!
Makes you feel awful, but you should also feel proud that you have instilled a safety measure in your dd that could save her life.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 - 11:48 am:

Oh yeah, i think we all have been there and done that!! Don't worry about it and you are NOT a bad mommy for doing that, you are just human.
