New boss in job?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: New boss in job?
By Anonymous on Friday, September 1, 2006 - 08:43 am:

I just wanted to know how others have dealt with a "controlling" boss. First I have no problem with being told what to do. Let me fill you in: I have worked here 12 years. A few years ago a new woman came in. It was rumored she was having an affair with the boss. Bottom line: She is now assistant director. (surprise, surprise). I have always worked on my own w/no problems. He put her in charge of my area and things have been changing. She now hovers over me w/every detail. SHe has also been making many changes. I do not have a problem with these changes but to be honest most do not make sense. I have voiced my concerns to our boss just to cover my butt in case things go wrong as time goes on with these changes. What really got to me is she is now telling me what to say in my emails when respondng to co-workers questions (work related). I never said a word but an email passed thru to me in which she said to someone else "here are her email responses, I am trying to get her to stop". Why after 12 years do I have to STOP? I then emailed our boss and will be sitting with him this morning. Wish me luck.

Good luck, I'm in sort of the smae predictiment myslef at the moment.

having been working for the federlal governmetn for the past 8 1/2 years same company. My supervisor she doesn't hover over me otr anythign liekthat , she was preventing my form calling in to work unless i wnet tothe doctor , i could not leave to go get my kids unles we went to the doctor.

To make a long sotry short, tired to talk to her myself and find out what went wrong, she would never give me a strati forwarded answer, so with school starting I may need to leave and go get my kids but she was preventing me form doing thisI I filed a complaint with the Union and they approached her on ym behalf ( I havne't heard form them) my rep is away on vacation. I hope things doenst' escalate to this level for you , but I felt that I didn't have a chioce it was startign to effect my health( I started having panic attacks, more here at work then at home where I was also having them justi thinking of my job)

{{{hugs}}} First of all, I want to say that I know it is very hard when someone new comes in and makes changes, especially when we feel they are a mistake. With that said, I think it is very important to go to her with your concerns/problems instead of her boss. You are going over her head, which is going to make her mad! If you have a problem with a change she is making, why don't you talk to her about it? I think you might get a better response if you do. Because, if you are going to her boss, I am sure that boss is telling her everything you are saying. If you deal with her, and you aren't getting anywhere, then I see no problem going over her head. As far as the emails, I didn't really understand what you were saying about them, but I would bring it to her attention that you saw her response to someone, and in future, if there is a problem with your emails, you would appreciate that she speak to you about it, not someone else.

{{{hugs}}} I hope things get better soon. There is nothing worse then working in a stessful environment.

Thanks everyone. So far, my boss has not even come in so probably has not even seen my email to him. The email I had sent was just giving someone an update on a loan. I told her that no new loans were taken out, the file was closed and then asked if she knew who the student sat with. Her response was "your better off telling her, I'll get back to you. She did not like the fact I told her where the file was and that if I could not tell who student saw, she couldn't. You know what? I won't be cc'ing her anymore!

UPDATE: Boss came in and when I called him, he had not read email. We discussed and he told me he had no problems w/my emails, no one has ever complained and that he would of told me. He stated she did mention something one time but he didn't really pay much attention to her comment. At least I got it out and feel better.
