Paramount Pictures cuts ties with Tom Cruise
"Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures unit is ending its 14-year relationship with Tom Cruise's film production company because of the actor's offscreen behavior, the company's chairman said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal."

I saw that on TV tonight. I can't say that I'm surprised. Paramount feels that his antics are not the image that they want to portray. There IS something very weird about that guy, IMO!
I have a feeling it was more Tom's idea than anything. He probably has something up his sleeve...
His whole life (image, antics, etc.) has just gone so crazy. The whole thing is WEIRD. I don't get it. The mystery with this baby, the mystery with Katie Holmes and her not being seen much, his craziness. I just don't get it.
I've heard, but I don't know for sure, that Katie is upset and just wants to live a normal family life, but Tom keeps giving her more and more crazy scientology rules and won't let her out in public with the baby. She's also not allowed to go out without a Scientologist (word?)bodyguard...
Good grief! She is being brainwashed! It's almost cult-like, the way he is treating her! Her parents must be freaking out!
I think the whole "relationship" between the two of them was a publicity stunt. They both had movies coming out at the time of their big "love affair". I also wonder IF there ever was a baby since no one has seen him/her. They made too much of an issue of posing, with his hands showing off her "belly". At the time, a couple of other movie starts were having babies (Angelian Jolie, for one), so it was the "in" thing to do. Tom has been married twice. Wife #1 was Mimi Rogers, who is older than he is. They had no children. Wife #2 was Nicole Kidman. Their two children were hers before she met him, and are adopted.
IF there is a baby, I had read that Katie wanted a traditional Roman Catholic baptism for the baby, and he wanted some kind of Scientology ceremony instead.
"Spin" has always been alive and well. In the 50's and 60's, Rock Hudson's movie studio arranged a marriage for him to bolster his leading man image. Poor guy was afraid to "come out" for fear that his movie career would be finished. In those days, it probably would have been.

What really ticks me off is that I really liked Top gun and his other earlier movies. I just can't watch them anymore with the same feelings.

I totally think she, as well as his other wives, were nothing but beards to hide his lifestyle choice. When you think about it in that sense, his first two wives weren't BIG stars when they married him, but gained alot of publicity by being with him. Good for Mimi Rogers. GREAT for Nicole Kidman! All of this, of course, with contracts about never spilling the beans!!! What other woman gets dumped the way Nicole did, yet NEVER has ONE thing even remotely bad to say about their ex?????
My other theory is that, if there is a baby, Katie Holmes was pregnant already, and an opportunity presented itself for her to gain great publicity and give Tom the credibility he needs. What better credibility than fathering a child, which has long been a bone of contention in the rumor mill!!!!

I haven't hada chance to read the article yet. But over the years I have seen a change in him since he has encountered scientology. I havn'et and don't see John Travolta or Kristie Ally acting weird, if they are it hansn't been made public.
BUt what is the deal wtih the baby? I was questioning myslef as to if there was really a child or not afte looking at the e a few weeks ago. I mean even Brad and Angie and Broke have let there babies be seen.
And you dont' see that much of katie anymore, But thwhen they where talkigna bout the birth on the E!. did anyone here the story that her parents didn't know anythign or where notified until she got home form the hospital. adn Then ther mother didn't coem to see the baby only her father.
And It's also funny Angellew that you would say that aobut Nicole. Beuace you knwo in order to work for Oprah in any capacity at on eof hrehomes or her tv shoe you have to sign such a contract that you will never discolose anyhting.
ANd liek you siad the the way tht she was dumped, he filed for divirce and left her just before there 10th anniversary, to avoid having to pay more money. And when asked aobut the break up she was like oh it happended I have nothign to say, and I hate to say it , but she dindt' look to disappointed or haeart broken to be losing him either .
There has got to be way more to this story.... the events that they are referring to that made them end their contract were what... over a year ago at least. Why now???
I think it's because the contract is just now up for renewal and the studio chose NOT to renew it. By doing that, they don't have to pay him any money. If they had BROKEN the contract a year ago, they probably would have had to buy him out.
Karen, I always thought that Tom and Nicole adopted the kids together, too, but I thought I heard somewhere that SHE has custody because they were hers to begin with. I could be wrong.
I would think that if there was a baby, they would be anxious to show him/her off, and make even more money on the photographs. Every celebrity, from Kathie Lee Gifford (gag) to Gwyneth Paltrow has been anxious to have their baby on the front cover of People magazine.
I heard one rumor that there is something wrong with the baby; that it is deformed. However, I don't think there ever was a baby.
Also, they AREN'T married, are they?
Angela - I think the same situation is true of Kenny Chesney. He had this whirlwind courtship and marriage to Renee Zelwegger, and it lasted four months. Neither of them is saying a word. However, she applied for an ANNULMENT, not a divorce. Either she was paid to keep quiet, or she just has a lot of integrity and compassion.

I heard or read some tabloid that Cruise wanted X amount of money for pictures of his baby, but did't receive it...so no pictures of the baby.

Wow! I never knew she was pregnant, either, but I did know the two adopted the kids together. Such a messed up story full of a lot of information that none of us "common" folk will ever know!
This is a little off topic, but what I just figured out about celebrities is that they are SOOOO spoiled that I think they lose touch with reality.
They all seem to marry, have kids, divorce, etc. But, what happens is that the kids have bonded to the nannies and are used to being shuffled around so much that it's really no big deal to divorce!
For instance...Kate Hudson and her hubby...she has been known for saying "I just don't think you're supposed to be with one person forever!"
Uhhhhh...wow. It's called WORK, sweetie. Marriage takes WORK and if you cared at all about your kids and providing a stable life and your husband then you WORK at it. I guess when you have money and nannies, you don't think of "Wow, it really would be pretty hard without the hubby!"

I just *really* know what it's like being without my husband and I wouldn't want it...ever. Nevermind the fact that I picked a good one...it takes work, no matter who you are.

Weren't they in that movie together "Eyes Wide Shut"? It was Stanley Kubrik's last movie. I think he passed away while it was still in production. I think it was kind of a sordid movie (I never saw it) about sex and partner 'swapping' and the like. I remeber Nicole saying that she was very uncomfortable with the whole production. I think they divorced shortly afterward.
You're right, Adena. There is so much that we'll never know. The publicists of celebrities can certainly "leak" information when it is to their advantage, and keep information tight when it isn't.

I've always wondered why Tom and Nicole choice to adopt two children before having kids of their own.
Annie, I had always assumed that one of them *couldn't* have kids. Years later, you have to wonder now, don't you?
