BCP Question
I've been on the pill for about 11 years, just off long enough for pregnancy. I recently changed the pill that I've been taking for the last 4-5yrs. because of major hormonal problems over the last 5 months or so. My gyn put me on a pill called Yaz. I feel great btw, which is such a relief and really unbelieveable, but I have a question. This pill is different than my others, and I take 3 weeks and 3 days of bcp's, then 4 days of sugar pill. Tonight will be my 4th sugar pill and I haven't started. On my old pill, I always started on my 2nd sugar pill day. I have had 2-3 spots and that's it. I feel like I should start my period (light cramping and tiredness mostly, my usual), but haven't really. Anyone know if that's normal with a pill switch, especially when I'm changing up the # of days I'm on them? I'm not pregnant. We've been using condoms as double protection since right before my last period as extra protection during the switch, and I'm ridiculously responsible about my pill. Needless to say I'm going to call my doc on Monday and ask about it if I don't start a full blown period, but I wondered if any of you had this experience. I didn't think I could start my period once I started back on the bcp's tomorrow?? But honestly I've never been on this schedule before. Any thoughts? TIA
It might be the strength of the pill. I was on a pill once and never got a period. I taked to the gyn about it and she said it was ok. I was not ok about not getting a period though so she put me on a lower dose. I would talk to your doctor about it though, there might be another reason.
After doing a little reading on the net, this is considered a low dose bcp, so it it is odd that you would miss a period. Those things do just happen though. However have you taken any medication, vitamins, herbal suplements etc. This pill seems to be particularly vulnerable to that. If you have, then you need to take a pg test. If you don't start you need to call a doc, my guess is the first question would be is have you taken a pg test.
I actually started (for real) this morning. I haven't taken anything else...no meds or anything different. I've always taken a women's vitamin but that's it. No way I'm pregnant. Now I'm just wondering how long my period will last. It's weird because I'll actually be on my period into my next pack, which is totally new for me. Thanks ladies! Guess I just had to wait it out. Next month might not be the same. We'll see.
Also, I had read all of the info in the pack before I started them, but you prompted me Kaye to go to the website. It was a little more informative...it says that you will most likely have your period into the next pack. That's normal for this pill apparently. DUH! I was on a low dose pill before and I could feel it the minute I started ovulating until the minute I stopped. It was awful physically, plus the hormones were WAY out of whack. My doctor said you should NOT feel when you're ovulating when you're taking the pill. She gave me a look like "you're lucky" (I didn't get pregnant). OMG! I would have sued. LOL
I started new pills a few years ago. Actually, for the same reason as you, hormone problems. With my old pills, I always started my period the Tues after I stopped my last pill, and it would stop by the weekend. Now, I don't start my period until Thursday, and I have it until Monday...after I have started my new pack. So, it sounds like everything is normal, just different because of the new pills.
I have to laugh about the "there is no way I am pregnant". I was very careful, used condoms, and my hubby was living in a different town while we were waiting on our house to be ready to move. So I know we only had sex once, I know we were very careful. I now have a 3rd grade boy because of it. My friend laughed when I said that same sentence. After her nagging I did a test and for the next 7 months she kept saying it too me. The only 100% form of birth control is abstinence
I can't imagine getting pregnant on the pill and a condom at the same time.
Deanna - I've come to realize that if a "little person" wants to get here, they find a way! I know that it defies the laws of biology, but I have seen it more than once! Kaye's little boy is just one example.
