Question about a scar

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: Question about a scar
By Emily7 on Friday, August 18, 2006 - 08:49 pm:

When my ds was born he had 2 major surgeries to repair an omphalocele and then he has had 3 hernia surgeries. My question is that on the incisions he gets these little things that almost look like blackheads. The other day he had one that was infected, so I put some Triple Antibiotic on it. Is this normal? I don't get them where I had my c-sections.

Did he have stitches? It is a big possibility that it could be stitches working their way out. I had that happen to me, and yes, they got infected. I was able to pull a couple out with tweezers, but another was stuck, and hurt badly to pull on it. The doctor took care of it. These were the disolvable stitches that happened, once, too.

Just a thought, though...

That was the same thought I had. I had stitches that worked their way through the skin years after my surgery. The doctor took them out very easily in his office. I have several keloid scars and I've never noticed anything like a blackhead on any of them.

I had the same thing after a laprascopic surgery through my navel. I had a black "dot" and it hurt like heck. It was a dissolvable suture that didn't totally dissolve. The doctor pulled it out in her office, and it was instant relief.

Thanks ladies, it just bothered me because he gets them every couple of weeks. They don't always get infected though.
I meant to ask his doctor at his 4 year check up, but we talked about so many other things. Plus I did my dd's 2 year check up the same day.

They don't all get infected. But they are probably working their way out, then back in, and then back out again. I'd have a doctor see him next time you saw the black dots. They can be painful...
