One more flying question....
Do you think I would be better off taking my backpack or my open tote bag?? I'm just wondering for searching my bags. I just don't want to get held up. I'll have my baby carrier and a stroller, so I'm not worried about being hands free. I'm letting DD take her own stuff in her backpack. My DH thinks I'm crazy to worry about such a thing. LOL I'm just going for a stress free experience.
Well I have a question, too, then. I planned to wear some capris that have a total of eleven metal zippers and snaps and doodads. Am I just ASKING to be held up by security?? Or will the wand they wave over me make it obvious it's the zippers? All are visible.... Eve, I wouldn't think it would matter if you approach them with the backpack already opened up! Then the time it takes would be the same.
LOL, Kate. I'd probably avoid all that metal. It may be fine and not set off the detector, but if there was a chance you could be patted down, then I'd avoid it. I've been patted down and they said it was just a "random" search. It wasn't a big deal, but it did take longer. I guess I'll just have to see what fits where when deciding. I usually put everything in individual ziplocks to make packing easier, so I'll probably be fine. I just won't have anyone to hand Mason off to if they need me to pull stuff out of my bag! I'm probably worrying for nothing. LOL
Where are you headed, Eve? No Jay?
Kate, I would change what I am going to wear, because yes you will be patted down. Eve, the less you have with you the better. I would go for packing the powder formula packs. They may not let the formula through and in some cases you have to taste it. So I would buy those cute little packs and call it good. Ask for water as soon as you get on the plane. Also I would go for feeding him in the car before you have to go through security and then I would go for candy of sorts for him to suck, to try to avoid that whole feeding thing to start with! As for the back pack, it is probably fine. The key really is to not over pack it. Anything that is too thick will have to be hand searched.
Before *London*, I have worn cargo pants with a lot of zippers and buttons, and sandals with metal buckles and they were fine. However, after the London thing, I think you should probably wear something with the least amount of metal possible. I was searched in the Miami airport last year because the underwire in my bra, the metal snap on my jeans and my silver omega necklace set off the metal detector. And yes, I was patted down. Keep it simple.....
We had backpacks and it wasn't a problem. The kids both had one. Actually things are really calming down. We went the day after the arrests and arrived at the airport two hours early "just in case". We didn't need to. It didn't take us any more time than normal.
We're heading to TN to visit family. Yes, no Daddy. He's staying home to work. Oh, Kate. I had to laugh, I was getting DD's outfit ready for tomorrow morning, when I realized I was going to put her in capris with a million snaps. My DH said "Uhm, I think it might be tramatic for our daughter to be patted down by security, don't you?" Geesh-we were just talking about this too! Mommy brain strikes again. LOL Kate-have a safe trip!
LOL, Eve! Too funny! I'm annoyed about the capris...we're slated to land in Disney at 1:30 and we're using Magical Express which means THEY retrieve our bags and cart them to the hotel, so I won't have access to my luggage for about three hours. We're just landing and heading to our hotel and then on to a different hotel for dinner, and THEN to the Magic Kingdom in the evening. SO! My plan was to wear the capris as planes tend to be cold, and I figured I'd be cool enough just going back and forth between hotels and then the Kingdom in the evening. I wore these exact capris last year for this exact reason and it worked well. ANYway, now I'll have to wear shorts on the plane as I definitely don't want heavy jeans. I'm rambling....LOL! And yes, I only own one pair of capris, sniff, sniff.... Have a safe trip, yourself! Do you think Crayola Markers are okay on the plane??
Do kids need ID for traveling???
Good luck with your travels, everyone! Kate, I only have pair of denim capris and I wear them ALL the time. They are wearing out and I need a new pair. They don't have any hardware on them. They would be perfect for a plane! There are so many things to think about, when you fly! I haven't flown on a commercial plane, since we went to Disney, in 1979! It wasn't nearly so complicated, then!
