Good info re: suicide hotline
I got this email from CABF (Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundation). It's good info to have. The nation's largest suicide hotline, 1-800-SUICIDE, is likely to go out of service this Saturday, August 12, 2006. There is a federally-funded National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK, available to help people in crisis. Supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency (SAMHSA), this number has been in operation since January 2005 and serves as a central switchboard to connect callers to over 120 federally certified crisis centers around the country. All calls to the Lifeline are private and confidential. SAMHSA, crisis centers participating in the Lifeline network, and the Mental Health Association of New York City (the private nonprofit that operates the Lifeline) do not collect or store personally identifiable information. As of Saturday, 1-800-SUICIDE callers will be redirected to 1-800-273-TALK through a recorded message. The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is working with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the entire suicide prevention community to ensure that every call for help during a suicide crisis is answered. CABF urges you to help distribute this alert in your community. Together, we can ensure that every call for help is answered. Thank you, Susan Resko Executive Director Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundation
