Amber Alert success story
From KYW, Philadelphia area all-news station: Kidnapped Child Found in Park in Phila. by KYW’s Sonia Rincon An amber alert is over for a West Oak Lane baby boy. Police are calling this a success story for the Amber Alert. Detectives on the case say this system really works. Someone who heard the alert saw little Dowayne Reid all alone in Fairmount Park and called the police. The 14-month-old boy was snatched from his Ashley Street home at around 5:30am Sunday when 5-10 masked men who demanded cash and jewelry from the child's family (see related story). When they didn't get any, they pistol whipped two family members and took off with the baby. Police were able to make contact with the kidnappers as recently as two hours before the child was spotted in the park. They're still looking for them and wondering why these men targeted this particular family. Police say these folks had no money; in fact their utilities had just been shut off. They also had clean records. Police think they may not have been the intended target of the robbery. The investigation is ongoing. (My guess is that when the radio statinos started broadcasting the Amber Alert the robbers abandoned the little boy as quickly as they could. I am really glad they left him where he could be seen, and alive. )
Absolutely! However, how terrifying that a child can be snatched from his own home. Those poor people! Thank goodness that the perpertrators didn't harm the baby.
