Are You a "Card Person"??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: Are You a "Card Person"??
By Hol on Thursday, August 3, 2006 - 10:24 pm:

I used to be so good about remembering the birthdays, anniversaries, etc. of friends, and sending cards to arrive on time. Something has happened to me, and if I don't mark everything on my calendar, I forget. I always remember family, tho.

Also, I used to buy all the cards I needed at the beginning of the month, for that month. Now, I put them away so well, I forget where I put them, so I end up buying more.

If I read in the paper where someone I know has lost a loved one (someone not close enough to go to the funeral), I always mean to send a card and note, and before I know it, a week or two has passed.

I don't know what's wrong with me lately. I am usually very organized, and am a list maker. I just seem to have a mental block about sending cards. Hallmark wouldn't be happy with me. :)

For the past twenty years I have sent bday cards to friends I grew up and graduated from high together. There were about six of us.

I stopped doing it this year. They loved receiving my cards but never sent me one.

I also add a hand written message in XMas cards. Not much but they are my handwriting and a brief "wish you the best", etc.

Many I receive now from "friends" are printed out from stores. I'm at the point that I would not want a card from them if they can not take the time to write at least a personal hello during the hoildays.

Well, I like receiving special cards....not birthday cards or Christmas cards, unless they have a personal message--I prefer getting surprise, for no reason cards. Just a friendship card or a thinking of you card means a lot more than the expected Christmas card every December. Also, I don't save cards. I send cards, but I've gotten bad about birthday cards for people I am personally delivering a present to. I just don't see the point...I'm there in person saying Happy Birthday, and I have a present in tow so it's not like I need SOMETHING to hand them....I guess I'm not much of a card person when you're talking about TYPICAL cards. Now, if the person lives out of town and I don't see them often, then yes, birthday and Christmas cards are a must. But I find them unnecessary and redundant when I am actually seeing the person. They're also way too expensive!!

Nope, never been a card person... tho I'd like to be. I'd like people to know that I think of them.

I am a card person, I LOVE finding the perfect card for someone. I've even started stamping and making my own.

Card person here too..........

By Tonya on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 09:06 am:

I don't even do cards for B-days or anything else except for Christmas. I never have and I never will. Everyone who knows me if their kdis open a gift without a card it is from me.

I send out around 50 cards a year for Christmas with a family photo and a short note.

Ditto Christylee...I love doing cards. I've been a stamper for years, so I often do my own cards. Occasionally though I won't, and then I try to look for just the right card.

I used to be a card person. Now with three kids, homeschooling, a small business, and a part time job at our church... not so much! LOL Plus they can be pricey & it's just something thing that often doesn't fit into the budget!

I try to be, but I'm a bit flaky when it comes down to it!

By Bea on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 12:17 pm:

I love getting cards, and send them to everyone in the family for birthdays and anniversaries. I also love e-cards, and send them to friends and family online.

In my mind I am...but execution sucks for me. I am notorious for the day late cards :)

By Tink on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 01:07 pm:

I never have been before but recently, it's become something I'm working on. I've started making my own and love it!

By Hol on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 03:11 pm:

Hey Bea! It's wonderful to hear from you! We've missed you and been worried about you! (HUG)

I try my best and keep different occasion cards on hand, but after children, it's been tough. I'm sad that I don't keep up with thank you's like I should. I would like to set a better example! I'm trying!

By Yjja123 on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 05:03 pm:

I send cards for all occasions. I stock up at the dollar store, after holiday sales, etc. I have a box with dividers for each holiday/occasion. This way, I do not get caught without one.

By Reds9298 on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 09:19 pm:

Yvonne - I've started doing that lately, since I find that sometimes I'm too busy scrapbooking to make as many cards as I used to. I often find a pack of 6-8 cute all-occasion at Target on clearance. They're usually like $1.50. :)

By Yjja123 on Friday, August 4, 2006 - 09:23 pm:

You can find them on sale at Michaels and Jo-annes too. I am well stocked right now. Our Albertsons closed last week. The last day everything was 95% off. I bought around 50 cards for mere pennies. :)

By Hol on Saturday, August 5, 2006 - 02:33 am:

Ninety five percent off??!! That's about as close to being free that I've ever heard of. LOL!

I'm not as good with thank you notes as I used to be either, and yet I get after the boys about it. :(
