Successful Complaint to Hanes
I recently bought what I thought was a bargain at Target - a 6-pair package of cotton briefs with a 7th pair free. To my dismay, when I opened the package, the 7th pair was a pair of “perfect panty” “360◦ stretch” panties - nylon and lycra. I wrote to Hanes expressing my disappointment (with a copy of the packaging) and told them that at my age (67), and my size (16+), I didn't wear nylon or nylon and lycra panties - rather, I wear cotton panties for comfort and because other fabrics, especially stretch fabrics, give me rashes. (I also suggested that this might be false advertising.) I got a letter back today, (1) apologizing, (2), saying that the "package should have had a call-out tag indicating that the free panty was of a different style" and they are sending it to the appropriate marketing department for review, and (3) promising to send me a free 6-pack of cotton briefs within the next few weeks.
Excellent! I often write letters about stuff when I am not happy. Most companies do good by me, others get on my list to not buy from again. On a different note...did you try the perfect panties? I am a cotton gal myself and not sure what happened and I bought some, oh my gosh, they are the perfect panties for me
No, I didn't try them, Kaye. In comparison to my usual panties, they are about 1/5 the size (or less). I don't like snug or tight panties, which is why I almost never wear pantyhose any more. I'm not at all concerned about panty lines showing through my slacks - I'm concerned about panty lines on my skin.
Very impressive of Hanes to take care of it so professionally! I only wear VS, and had 2 $40 bras get messed up shortly after buying them. They took care of that when I brought them in to complain.
Very impressive indeed! Good for you.
Cool! Once I bought a package of Dole Fruit Bowls, that was supposed to be Cherry Mixed Fruit, but what was inside was the plain mixed fruit. I know, not THAT big a deal, but I did call them and I think they sent me a coupon for a free one! LOL! I wanted them to know that some of their fruit bowls had been mislabeled. I wouldn't turn down free undies!
Oh Ginny, I hear ya!!! I only wear 100%, full cut cotton briefs, too. My DH calls them "Granny Panties". That's okay, because I AM a Granny. He has no room to talk with his "tighty whities". LOL! Good for you. It's nice, too, when a company is responsive, and cares about the consumer. At my age (57) and size (18+), I too, dress for comfort. I stopped wearing panty hose, too, about five years ago. With my arthritis, I am too stiff to wrestle them over my big butt. And I can't stand anything TIGHT around my waist.
Add me to the club. I gotta be comfy!
Okay, don't laugh... I am 36 and wear those "granny panties" too. If I wanted a pair of panties that went up my butt, I would buy a thong. Good going, Ginny!
Yeap, Cocoa. That is my thought, exactly. I was actually told, when I was hired by the clinic, that thongs weren't appropriate at work! Not that I wear them anyway.
Dawn - I certainly can understand that. Uniform and scrub pants are pretty thin. As it is, I've seen medical people with white scrub pants on, and printed underwear underneath.
I was a granny panty wearer too...but tried the perfect panties and WOW are they comfy. They do not at all feel like I expected they would. I expected a panty hose feeling and they are just like wearing nothing..oh so nice
I don't think I want to feel like I'm wearing nothing. For me, there is a certain psychological security knowing I'm "covered".
Kaye, I may have to try those! Ginny, I'm glad you have gotten the problem resolved.
I like my granny briefs too Ginny. Cotton and comfort are paramount for me. I prefer the feel of Jockey over Haynes though. The cotton is more polished, for a silkier feel. I'm a big letter writer and 800 number caller. If some thing's not right, I let them know. 99 and 9/10 % of the time the manufacturer makes good with a replacement and a coupon for extras. I also write complimentary letters to companies who provide superior service, and tell managers when employees do a superior job.
LOL Ginny! I couldn't agree more! I buy my cotton undies at JC Penney when they have their undies sale. The ones I get are very full cut and comfortable. They're called "Underscore". They also hold up well to repeated washings and bleach. I think they come three to a package, so I'll buy a dozen pair when they go on sale. Sometimes they even have "buy one package, get one free". I also buy DH's underwear at Penney's, also on sale. I get him Stafford. They hold up well. I love Playtex bras. There is only one style number that I wear. I get them from One HanesPlace.com, and I'll buy three or four of them at a time, too. I get the boys' Hanes from Walmart because they destroy theirs, stains in T-shirts, etc. I don't know why, and I probably don't want to. LOL! Everything HAS to be white, tho. I am a bleach fanatic.
Just reporting that the promised six free pairs of panties arrived today, in much less than the up to six weeks listed in the letter - my style and my size. I wrote to the customer relations person and told her how much I appreciated the prompt and thorough apology she sent, and that the panties had arrived and I like them.
I'm glad it all worked out so well, Ginny!
