Mildew question...

I know there has been a thread about this before, but I need to ask again. How do you get the smell from mildew to go away? We live in a mobile home.A few months ago our roof was damaged from high winds .Because the rain lasted for several days,it was quite a while before our landlord could replace the roof.Needless to say,the rain got down into the walls.I thought in time the smell would go away, but it hasn't.Is there anything that can help now? I can't get in between the wall to put something there to take the smell away,so is there something else I can do? Also, our house is sitting on an incline, and water stays all around the edges and under the house for long periods after each rain, which has caused mold to form.Is there any way to get rid of this mold ? We are looking for another place to move to...we've been fighting this for over a year. But we were hopeing to be able to wait untill we are able to buy, instead of renting again.

Until your landlord properly takes care of the water damage and does something about external water drainage I'm not sure there's much you can do. A dehumidifier would be helpful, but only a bandaid until repairs are done. FWIW, mildew and mold from water damage can become a potentially serious health issue. If the landlord is dragging his feet to do the proper repairs I'd want to get out of there asap.

I agree. Mold can be deadly, especially the black mold. It's called pachybactrus, and it can cause headaches, allergies, and lung problems.

If your landlord doesn't fix it, I'd get out of there. If not, give your landlord a time limit. If he doesn't fix it (which, I don't know if it CAN be remedied), notify the health department, and the building inspector for your town. They should MAKE him fix it.

Good luck. :)
