Memory Foam Topper

Memory Foam Topper
DS is thinking of purchasing a Memory Foam topper for his dorm room (the beds are, shall we say, "less than comfortable" looking). We saw an ad for $99 twin size at a local discount store....do any of you have these? Any recommendations? I've read some reviews on overstock.com and have concerns regarding: fit, SMELL?, etc. I don't want to see him waste his money if it's not worth it....
My dh & I bought one for our bed, we were not impressed. We ended up giving it to my mil who I think threw it away. The first few nights it was fine, but it just got really uncomfortable. I do like my pillow that has memory foam & down feathers in it though.
I do not have a topper but I have the memory foam mattress. I love it! It is very comfortable. There is a BIG difference between the different brands.
I have the brand name memory foam topper, and DH and I LOVE it!! Ours is very dense foam, and is about 3 inches thick. (It took both of us to put it on the bed, as it is heavy). Also, some of my fitted sheets don't *fit*. I have to buy the deep pocket ones. I have arthritis, and I used to have trouble getting comfortable on our innerspring mattress, and I'd wake up very stiff. This made me love my bed again. It's like sleeping on a cloud. Youngest DS got jealous, so we bought him one, too. He LOVES his, too. Older DS has a pillow top mattress, so he didn't need one. The smell only lasted a day, and it smelled like *vanilla*, not foam. DO spend the money, tho, and get the brand. My DD bought a cheap one in Walmart and hated it. She gave it away.
DH and I bought the actual tempurpedic mattress set in May. We thought long and hard before we made the purchase, due to the price. But for us, it was the right choice, and I am hooked. However, I do know a few people who bought the toppers and they are completely satisfied with them. Can it be returned if he doesn't like it?
Not sure if it can be returned....he can't really buy the mattress, as it is for going on top of the one that comes with the dorm room. Buying a mattress would be too expensive, as all ours at home are double or queen and the dorm has a twin (and he will only be there 4 nights per week).....the topper is around $100...I bet the Tempurpedic one is MUCH more. I'll have to do some online price comparisons Thanks for your input
If it's a Tempurpedic, you CAN return it. It has a 100% money-back guaruntee. DH bought the Tempurpedic pillow several years ago. He paid $100.00 (!) for it in the mall store. He was having problems with his neck. He didn't like it, and they took it back, no questions asked, and gave him all of his money back.
I have one, it is very comfortable. I am planning on getting the real deal like Karen soon! Does he have a roommate? The Cal-king on overstock can be cut down the middle and split between two twins. Just a thought, because usually college kids are short on cash!
Good idea!!!!!
Hol, DH and I both got the king size swedish neck pillows from Tempurpedic and it is so firm it hurts my neck more than helps it - they are normally $165 each, but they were no charge with our bed. I am considering getting the regular pillow when I have some extra cash. My doc warned me that those particular pillows were not good for everyone's neck. I have some brand X foam type neck pillows that are more comfortable. It's weird that the pillow was too firm for me, and yet we bought the firmest mattress that Tempurpedic makes. We have had it for almost 3 months and I LOVE it. It is THE most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. And let me tell you, it spoils you. When we were in CA, I could not WAIT to get home to my bed. Sleeping on anything else is very uncomfortable for me.
A friend of mine has one, I've slept on it, and it's not bad. I'd say from what I've heard about the comfort of college dorm beds, it's worth it.
When I was in college, we bought egg crate mattresses for cheap, sometimes we used two and a nice mattress pad and it was fine. Really think back to college, I wasn't near as picky then as I am now!
