Computer software question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2006: Computer software question
By Missbookworm on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 02:41 pm:

My computer came with the OS and with Microsoft works suite 2006 and Word Perfect Office X3.

Is anyone familiar with these programs and how useful do you find them? I'm trying to decide which, if any, to put on my new pc.

TIA!

Depends - what word processing program do you prefer? If you prefer Microsoft Word, then you want the Works Suite, but I would custom load and select which components you want to load now (if you have the disks you can always add other components later). Personally, I prefer WordPerfect and will choose that whenever I have a choice because I find it much more user friendly and intuitive (though I've not used the Office X3 version).

You can always load both programs and, after using them, decide which ones to remove, as long as you have the disks to put them back later. And, you don't have to have either of them in your "startup menu", where they will use a lot of memory - rather, have them load into memory only when you want to use the program or a component of the program.

I hope you got a lot of memory. I didn't, when I got my new Dell, and had to buy a couple of larger memory chips later.

I LOVE Microsoft Works, but I have misplaced my discs which contained the clipart. I may just break down and buy the Suite.

We have Microsoft Office at our house, so we hardly ever use the Works programs! LOL!

I've never tried microsoft works, I might do as Ginny suggested and try it, I've never used it. I have Microsoft office, and I love it and it's what we use at work, I'm just disappointed that it wasn't the one that includes publisher and I'm going to purchase it at some point...
