Big Storm here yesterday!
We lost power!(Twice!)It came through very fast and was a little scary! We lost out server (so, no email for me) and a monitor. I went to leave today and my garage door won't open, so I think that got fried too! Bummer! We had roads closed and trees down. It was so strange that it came out of nowhere. Everyone is safe though.
Wow, we're only 20 minutes apart but we didn't get hit. We heard the thunder rumbling but that was it.
I'm so glad everyone is safe Eve! Do you have insurance that would cover the things that got fried? That's a real bummer I lost power a couple of days ago while I was at work, came home and everything was blinking. I had no idea why until I heard a squirrel got into one of the power box things...well you can imagine that I was so glad I had the important things off while I was at work...I haven't got insurance on my stuff.
We are having storms here. It has been thunderstorming on and off here all day loooooong!! And it started in the middle of the night last night, ds came in and got in bed with us. He's afraid of the thunder. I hope we don't lose power. We don't have any trees down, it's not that windy. But dh just emailed me and told me that the street he takes home from work is closed due to flooding, the other street he would usually take is closed due to construction, so now he will have to take the LOONG way home! I'm glad you are all safe Eve!
Eve - Do you live in the New Milford area? For some reason, a lot of really strong storms go through there, like there is a weather band or something. I was once in Groton, CT, and there was a very distinctive and familiar smell in the air. I told DH that the air smelled just like it did in Florida before a tornado. Sure enough, the next day we heard that a "wind sheer" (like a mini tornado) had swept through New Milford. Sorry about your property damage. Your insurance should cover it, minus the deductable.
Major thunder storms off and on in SE PA for the last couple of weeks, including one last night. Today, about 3 hours ago, it was raining so hard and blowing so hard we couldn't see across the parking lot from my office windows. According to KYW, winds were up to 69 mph in some spots. I am heartily tired of rain, especially thunderstorms.
Around 6:00 PM tonight, the sky got VERY dark, the wind picked up, and I could hear thunder rumbling north AND south of me. I figured we were in for it. Well, I guess it happened all AROUND us. On TV tonight, they said there were major power outages and hail in the cities to the north and south of me. Fortunately, all we got was a little rain. It did nothing to cool the temperature. In fact, after the shower, it was like a sauna outside, and it smelled like *earth* or dirt. We are supposed to have a major heat wave all weekend, temps in the mid nineties. (Don't laugh, Southern Moms. For us here in the snowbelt, 90's is HOT!!!).
