At last - a perfect day, and on a weekend!
Here in SE PA it's been quite hot (for our area), almost record-breaking, and rain, rain, rain, with lots of thunderstorms, power outages, downed trees and road closings. Friday night another thunderstorm and we lost power, but only for about half an hour. Saturday was hot, some more rain - it has felt like a steambath outside most of the last two weeks. But, last night was cool enough to open the windows and no fans or air conditioners, and the same today. Dry, sunny, but only up in the mid 70s in the afternoon, and cool again tonight. Someone must have messed up, to give us such a lovely day on a weekend. I think the last dry weekend day we had was at least a month ago, and that one was very hot.
I have had windows open all day today! It's been great. I even got to take a nap today, with the windows open. I love having a breeze blowing on me, when I sleep. We took the dog to the state park, on Lake Michigan, near our house! She had a blast. The only bad thing is that our retractable leash died, and we had to take the walk with 16-ft of cord, dragging around our feet. So, we will be shopping tomorrow! I like using the retractable leash, at the beach, because I really don't care where she walks. If we walk in the neighborhood, then I don't want her all everyone's lawns and I use a regular leash. Anyway, it was a gorgeous evening to be out walking the dog, at the beach!
YES! I LOVE days like these! Today was a very nice day in Michigan as well. But last night, I couldn't open any windows. Apparently we have a skunk family in the neighborhood. About once or twice a week they stink up the whole place. I saw where one got hit by a car a couple of streets away. UGH! Tonight, the dew point is in the 50's and it's cool outside, but now it smells king of swampy out. I can't really describe it. But it isn't pleasant. *sigh* Ginny, enjoy your beautiful weather!
Cocoabutter, I'm sorry your air doesn't smell good, but glad you enjoyed a nice day, too. I love dewpoints in the 50's. Apparently, we are supposed to get up to near 90 tomorrow, so the AC will be back on. I loved having open windows all day today.
So glad you had a pretty day, Ginny. After this weekend, I have much more empathy for those of you who deal with heat and humidity! Here in California we have had our ninth day straight of triple digits and this weekend it was humid as well. And it's not cooling much at night so we have had our A.C. going overnight. Oh my, it's hot. I think our break will come during the week. Can't wait to feel that wonderful, cool night air! I am so grateful for air conditioning. What did people used to do before this great invention?
Nicki, when I spoke with my sister yesterday, she told me the same thing, and said that the week of our visit was the only *cool* week of the summer. She (and most people she knows) dooesn't have central air though. She lives in Mill Valley, where are you? She had to see a freelance client inland yesterday and it was near 110. Here (near New Orleans), we have broken our drought with days and days of endless rain. There is still water several inches deep in a good part of my back yard from yesterday's rain, and it's supposed to rain here all week. You would think that would keep it cooler, but my AC runs all the time. Ginny, you are right, that *does* sound like the perfect day. I hope you enjoyed your treat!
Karen, it's all the humidity! LOL!
I wish we could have some of that rain here in TX... It is hot and humid and although we have had a break in the heat (only up to 96) the past 2 days it is still almost unearable to go outside. Rain would be a very welcome thing around here. Glad y'all are having nice days.
Karen, I live outside the Sacramento area, in the foothills. So we are used to the hot temperatures in the summer. But, we usually get a break after a few days of temperatures over 100. This seems like a longer heat wave. I have heard that Mill Valley is a beautiful area. I didn't realize the coastal areas were getting the heat as well. Sounds like your visit was well timed as far as the weather. How strange for you to have rain, yet it's still so warm. I hope it cools off for you, too!
Nicki, when it rains here in the summer time, it just makes a lot of steam. LOL If our temps would go down into the 80's, we would think that was cool.
There are times, when it rains in WI, and just makes the humidity worse! I can relate, but it's still probably worse, in New Orleans!
We got the beautiful day today...but tomorrow is supposed to get HOT!
