Hospital bills
We are now getting the bills from Dh back surgery. I am so thankfull for insurance for a surgery that cost almost $6000. to do we have to pay a little over 800.00 not so bad but today I get a bill that struck me funny. I had to call dh at work and we laughed about we got a bill for less then what it cost to mail it. We got a bill for 0.28 cents. I couldn't believe it. so Dh called to make sure and see if it was a misprint but it wasn't the lady who he talked to laughed about it. I have to mail out a bill for 28cents put a stamp that cost more and mail it out to funny. I am not complaining it could have been alot more.
What in the world was it for?? They spent more mailing it to you that it was worth!! That might win my "Idiot of the Week" award on my blog. ;)
Shann, this sounds crazy, but consider yourself lucky the surgery was *only* $6000. Does that include the hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist, etc.?? And BTW, how is your DH doing?
dh is doing really good. His physical therapy is 2 days a week and is doing wonders. He now says the surgery was worth it. but he still gets and ear full from me every once in awhile to remind him not to do anything dumb. The bill was for the guy to read his xray during sugery. I figured it should have been alot more. As for the rest of the bills its right around 800.00 for it all so far. we are starting to get little ones like the .28 cent one we also go one for 11.00 today also. I think the only one we havent got yet was for the anesthesiologis. but everything else is in so far. we had to pay the surgeon before he ever had the surgery and we had to pay the hospital before the surgery which was weird I have never heard of anything like that. but I guess they have a ball park figure they go by to charge. I don't know it just struck me odd paying for something we hadn't used yet. but he is doing good. And I am so thankful for that
Just an FYI. With insurance, the hospital (or doctor) that participates with your insurance is obligated by their contract to collect all monies owed from your DHs surgery. If they don't and the insurance company finds out (through audits), the insurance companies reasons that the hospital (or doctor) is willing to accept less than the set fee schedule and can lower their reimbursement schedule. I hope that made sense. Working with insurance contracts over the past almost nine years has been such an eye opener into the workings of the hospital. Glad to hear that all is going well.
