Speaking of shoes

Like I mentioned in the other post, I used to have a pair of Land's End two strap sandals that I LOVED!!! I owned one pair for about 4 years (including year round in Panama for 2 1/2 years) until they wore out and then got another pair that I had for about 5 years and then they wore out. When I went to buy another pair they'd discontinued them. :( Birkenstock makes something very similar. My question is how long can I expect a pair of Birkenstock sandals to last? If I'm going to spend $75 on a pair of sandals they'd better last a long time! lol The Land's End sandals were about $30 with shipping. Here's a pic of what I'd get.

So, anyone have Birkenstocks? Thoughts? Here in Colorado they'd be worn probably 4-5 months out of the year.

They should last awhile. I have never bought a pair, but ds has. He has a pair that he bought several years ago, and he still wears them. And, they still look nice.

I must still be half asleep, that should be dh, not ds.

I bought 2 pair of Birks on ebay. Both ended up being too big. My daughter ended up with them and she loves them. She says they are extremely comfortable. They are well made so I imagine they will last. Here in Florida we wear shoes year round.

I bought a pair that looks just like that from Wal-Mart Falls Creek brand I spent $15 on them and have had them this is my 4th year and they still look awesome!! For what you are paying they better last a really long time.

Birks are like Docs, I believe they come with a lifetime guarantee, but you might need to look into that. I know with Doc Martens, if they wear out you can get them replaced, for some reason I believe Birks are that way, too. Still, they last a long time, and are MUCH more comfortable than knock offs!!

Yep birks are a lot more comfy than knock offs. I bought 2 pair about 6 years ago. The cork ones, like the ones pictured above, still look and feel brand new. I wore them quite a bit for the first 2 years. The second pair only lasted about 3 years, they had a different sole that couldn't be replaced. They came from the "birky" line.

HOwever, to replace those I bought some crocs, I don't ever wear my birks anymore, they are too hard on my feet :)

I wear birks spring, summer and into the fall here in MI and as house slippers in the winter. Mine last about 3 years of continual wear. I just got a new pair (3 strap) at Sam's Club for $38.00 and am going to get another pair of the two straps in another color so I can alternate them and have them even longer. Just before vacation I took my old ratty pair and scrubbed them and polished them and used them at the beach so I wouldn't get sand on my new ones. For me the only thing that wears out is the bottom treads. I'm overweight and I think that makes them wear out faster from the added weight. From your picture above you will like the birks.

The ones Sams carries are the Birkenstock Betula, and not nearly as comfortable as the more expensive Birks. I've owned the ones Sams sells, and tried on the *better* Birks in department stores and there is definitely a difference.

What are crocs?

By Bemerry84 on Thursday, July 20, 2006 - 01:58 pm:

Karen you mean there are birks that are more comfortable than the Betula's, I didn't think that possible. I need to check them out. Where would I go to try them on? I won't buy them online as I need to try on (wide foot) and I know they have different widths.

Reds, crocs are plastic clogs, that are supposed to very comfortable.

The ones I like are called Birkenstock Arizona. I can get a pair off eBay for $76.45 with shipping. I'm thinking about it. I really like them.

By Karen~admin on Thursday, July 20, 2006 - 04:33 pm:

Mary, yes there are. I have owned a couple of pair of the ones you are talking about. But the Birks that you can buy in Dillards, etc. (the expensive line of them) are MUCH more comfortable.

Crocs are wayyyyyy too wide for me. I thought they would be great for the type of vacations we normally take, but I could almost put both of my feet in one shoe. Almost everyone around here wears them.

Dawn - Thanks for the info. I see those on people all the time and they are not for me. They look like gardening shoes:)
