Barking dog saga continues
Well we tried an ultrasonic bark devise. It seemed to make them bark more! So back it went. Dh has ordered two citrinella collars that should be here within the week. We'll see how those work. I've gotten a book from the library called Bark Busters that I'm about half way through. We've caught a teen up the street (house next to the woman that yelled at Lucky) throwing a rock at the dogs. Robin was calling them in when he did it. Robin yelled, "Hey! Knock it off!" Then last night dh caught that woman's daughter (probably about 10 or 11) aiming a sling shot at the dogs. She saw dh watching her and ran into her house. Man, they'd better watch out. If someone hits one of the dogs with a rock I'll be livid and we will call the police for animal cruelty. The problem is Robin has to wait at the bus stop with these kids! Hopefully the collars work. We'll see. Just thought I'd update you all. We really are trying! But when they pull stuff like this, it doesn't make up want to do anything, ya know?
I think with them tormenting the dogs it will make them bark more.Shame on your neighbours for teaching the kids to abuse animals.I hope you get if figured out soon.
I would actually go over the the house and explain that if they ever torment your dogs again in any way whatsoever, you will contact the police, file charges against them, and seek the cousel of an attorney to see what other legal course of action you can take. If these brats are doing that to your animal, they are doing it to others. We had a man pepper spray one of our dogs once. They were in our yard, fenced in, but barking at him as he mowed. He decided to take matters in his own hands. Several hundred dollars later, thanks to an animal loving judge and the humane society, he knows to never ever do that to an animal again. The dogs were a 6 month and a 1 year-old lab. Not exactly your average mean dog.
Wow, that is terrible. If they have been throwing rocks at them, I am sure that has them barking more. What a shame. I hope you get it resolved soon.
Cat, keep your video camera out and catch them on video doing this to your dogs!!!!!!!!!! OMG! I am shocked. BTW, when I was in obedience class they suggested keeping empty water bottles or coke bottle, cutting off the bottoms, then cutting *strips* up the bottom edge. When your dog barks (and I mean every single time if you can) walk out with the bottle (holding it by the top) and bop the dog on the rear or head saying 'NO BARK' sternly. The sound of the plastic bottle will get their attention but not hurt them. Actually, you dont have too bop the dog at all- many times I walk out and pop it on my leg or hand and give the command. I also try too keep alot of chews out in the yard. My dogs get board otherwise and will chew or dig on things they shouldnt. We use too have a 3 rail wooden fence lined with chain link and they could see people thru it. They were alot worse then. Now we have a privacy fence and it has helped some. I am sure that method is not for everyone. lol
Don't have any advice, but wanted to offer you some encouragement. Good luck!
The citranella collars seem to be working for now. Bean got sprayed pretty good today at lunch time and MAN was he mad at me. He wouldn't even look at me, but he got over it. At this point they'd rather not go outside than wear the collars. We'll see how they're working after a few days. On a side note, there's been a U-Haul and moving truck in front of witchy woman's house all day!!! Her dh is military so maybe they're headed out! They don't have a for sale sign out, but it could be a rental. Man, if they leave I'd be thrilled!
*fingers crossed* that Witchy Woman is moving!
